Desiree’, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My family had humble beginnings coming from Guyana in South America. Inspired by my mother’s trajectory and her journey to the US made me want to work harder, not just for me, but to give back to my family one day. It wasn’t just about the “American” dream, it was about making a difference in the lives of others. “Be the change you wish to see in the world” – Gandhi

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am the CEO and Founder of The Business Matchmaker (www.thebusinessmatchmaker.org), a Relationship Manager, and an Empowerment Speaker, Career Coach, Media/TV Personality, Model, Award-Winning Singer, Producer, and Host. As seen on CBS2 News, NY1 News, News 12, Fox Business, InvestmentNews, ZeeTV, and TVAsia, I have spoken at the likes of Fortune 500 Firms across the Financial industry.
I am the proud recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from
The Biden Administration.

My speciality speaking topics are: She Means Business, Are You Linked In or Linked Out?, Personal Branding for Business Owners or Executives, and the Art of Networking. I have my own column in Financial Planning Association (FPA) Magazine. I am a former panelist for Brooklyn Savvy TV and a former Co-Host of the Discover a New Future Show. I co-launched a Zoom Series for Entrepreneurs and was the Host of the Work Your Money podcast and my segment was entitled “Women and Men In Business Who Rock”. I am currently launching a new podcast slated for 2025.

As a Business Matchmaker and Personal Branding Expert, I match my clients with the right products, people, or solutions. I provide one-on-one coaching, recruiting, and workshops. I take a personalized approach to get to know their business needs. I genuinely like helping people become the best versions of themselves so I knew my dream would be to launch a consulting business. I also recently launched my Coaching Program. It all started in the pandemic where I had a mission to uplift business owners and provide cost-effective but impactful services.

My film and music credits include
the upcoming Lost Boyz documentary and a new film “Crazy and Deranged.” I can be seen in “Who Is Christmas Eve” ft Romeo and Paige Hurd in 2021. I was also a Lead Model/Actress in Bobby Shmurda’s “RATS” in 2023 and featured in Method Man’s “Roll Call”, Jim Jones “Remember Who You Are”, Fivio Foreign’s “Get Deady“, Jadakiss’s “Money“, Justina Valentine’s “Mouth Go Crazy”, and Ice Spice’s “Deli” between 2023-2024. Finally, I am a voiceover and my story “Soulmates in Every Life” was top ranked in Sri Lanka in 2024.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1) Be Intentional About Your Brand

“Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card. How you leave others feeling after having an experience with you becomes your trademark” – Jay Danzie

Know how you show up and ask yourself: “Is this how I want the world to see me?” If the answer is no, change it.

2) Be a Relationship-Builder

It’s not just who you know, it’s who knows you. Build meaningful relationships and remember it’s a two-way street.

3) Be the Student, Be the Teacher

Always have a willingness to soak up information like a sponge. We can always sharpen our tool kit. And always pass the torch and pay it forward to help someone else. We all have room to grow and everyone deserves a chance to shine.
