We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Veronica Quezada a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my drive and family values. My parents taught me to be innovative, resourceful and hard-working. I started working and taking on responsibilities at a very young age due to necessity. When I was 8 years old I was a “paper girl” delivering the newspaper on my bicycle. At times, If I had left over newspapers, I would go to the donut shop and trade them for a donut. I also did canvasing passing out flyers promoting a local toy store and I would also sell cupcakes that my sister and I would bake. By the age of 15 I had a part-time job to help my family pay bills and bought my first car while still going to school. Taking on responsibilities at such a young age provided the foundation for my work ethic.
I apply my work ethic and values to everything I do. I take a sense of ownership, build relationships and work with integrity. These traits and work ethic is what I apply to my personal life and my business everyday.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am Veronica Quezada owner of Ciselé Handcrafted Leather. I started Ciselé in 2018 after a trip to Mexico where I was able to immerse myself in the craft of leather tooling. The artistry of this skill left me absolutely impressed and motivated to share this artwork with as many people as I could. I strongly value hard work, tradition, and the arts. Ciselé brings all of these values together and serves as a reflection of how I live my life. I value my roots as a Mexican-American woman and I value my heritage and culture.
I am proud to collaborate with several artisans and carefully select color, style, shape and design of our handbags. I design some of our handbags as well as feature designs from other Mexican designers in our collection. Together we have been able to continuously bring you a beautiful collection of high quality artisanal leather handbags, wallets, belts and accessories.
When you buy a Ciselé handbag you’re buying the love and passion that each artisan pours onto each piece. Your Ciselé purchase helps in supporting artisans and helps in keeping this art-form alive.
I am excited for new designs in 2025. In the Spring I will release a new design in honor of my grandfather who passed in June of 2024. This new design will feature a butterfly signifying transformation, and rebirth. This design was inspired with meaning and love and I cant wait to share it with you! I am also working on a new design of a crossbody cell phone wallet and we will also introduce a new collection of non tooled leather handbags.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Qualities and knowledge that I believe have helped me in my journey is my faith, integrity, and the importance of investing in people by building relationships.
My faith is what helps me keep going day to day and especially when things get difficult.
Having integrity is important because it allows you to stay true to yourself. Doing things with purpose and integrity will show in your work. Always do the work that you can be proud of.
Building relationships and connecting with people is essential in all aspects of business and life. How you treat people is crucial for success. No one can do things alone and accepting help and helping others allows for learning and growth.
How would you describe your ideal client?
Our ideal customer is someone that appreciates the quality of handtooled leather and understand the workmanship that goes into each piece of art that we create.
