Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Spencer Spiewak. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Spencer, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Graduating college in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic made for an unusual time to enter the workforce. On one hand, I still carried the “work hard, play harder” mindset of a college student. On the other, I faced the growing pressure of securing a career I was truly passionate about. Armed with a business management degree and a certificate in entrepreneurship, one might have assumed I’d launch my own business right away—but that couldn’t have been further from reality. I moved back home amid the chaos of COVID, only to unexpectedly find myself moving out a few months later when a rental opportunity opened up. Needing steady income, I took a job in local construction and braved a brutal winter on-site. The relentless cold and my drive for something more pushed me to seek new opportunities. While still working construction, I enrolled in online night classes to earn my real estate license, hoping not only for better pay but also for the comfort of a warm office. A few busy months later, I secured my license and jumped into real estate, only to realize the industry was far tougher to break into than I had anticipated. My first listing didn’t come until nearly a year and a half in, forcing me to rely on construction jobs to make ends meet. Ironically, it was through real estate that I found my true calling. When I finally secured my first listing, I hired a photographer for aerial shots—only to be shocked by the price tag for just three photos. That moment sparked an idea. Instead of spending future commissions on outsourced photography, I invested my first check into a drone. It meant continuing side jobs in construction to cover rent and groceries, but for the first time, I saw a clear path toward an interest-aligned, sustainable career. My first year was slow, but my connections in both construction and real estate led to steady work. The following year, my income doubled, and I expanded into ground-level photography, positioning myself as a one-stop shop for real estate agents and project managers. After a month of deep study on YouTube, my photos and videos could rival those of Wisconsin’s largest media companies—proving that persistence, adaptability, and a well-timed pivot can turn even the most unexpected paths into success.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Spencer Spiewak, and I am the owner and founder of Angel’s View Drone Services, based in Burlington, Wisconsin. Drone photography and videography—along with ground-level variations of both—was never something I envisioned myself pursuing. I’ve always had a deep love for the arts, whether it be photography, music, or poetry, but I never considered them viable career paths. While my parents offered unwavering love and support, most professional interactions early on steered me away from exploring creative fields. Looking back, it would be easy to chalk my journey up to luck, but my faith tells me otherwise. I believe every interaction and experience leading up to this point has played a critical role in shaping who I am and where I stand today.
Though I am business-driven, my foundation has always been built on relationships and delivering real value to my customers. My clients can attest that they are my top priority—not just another transaction. In a world where high costs dominate, I strive to find the middle ground between fair pricing and a sustainable livelihood. As a real estate agent myself, I understand the financial realities of the industry. Media costs add up, and commission checks don’t come until closing—which can sometimes take a month or more. Keeping that in mind, I make fair pricing a priority when quoting potential clients, ensuring they receive quality service without unnecessary financial strain.
At Angel’s View Drone Services, my role is ever-evolving. At any given moment, I might be flying a drone, capturing footage, editing photos and videos, or traveling to a shoot. Of all the aspects of my work, travel is by far my favorite. I’ve always dreamed of exploring the continental U.S. and beyond, and launching this business has made that dream a reality. While much of my work is based in Wisconsin, my reach has steadily expanded, leading to projects in other states—including one of my most exciting shoots yet: a scenic session for a couple in Nevada. My hope is to continue growing, taking on more travel-based projects, and sharing my passion for both aerial and ground-level photography.
In the near future, I plan to expand my services into LiDAR—a cutting-edge remote sensing technology that uses lasers to measure distances and create highly detailed 3D maps. This expansion will not only diversify my offerings but also open doors to new industries, ensuring continued growth and innovation in my work.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If I had to pick three they would be: confidence, keeping an open mind and finding a good mentor.
Confidence is key in everything you do as an entrepreneur. You must convey it in every interaction or risk losing potential business. So you haven’t done this type of job before? Own it and learn how to do it well while conveying that you have been there before and done it. As my dad always told me, “Opportunity doesn’t wait –
when it comes, you either face it head-on or miss it all together”.
An open mind is another large part of the equation when running a business. Yes, there are fundamentals to keep in mind but growth is built upon change, and change is never a comfortable thing to endure. Having said this, I make it a point to listen when clients or colleagues suggest new fields of drone work. At the very least it is worth exploring the possibilities – today’s unknown may be tomorrow’s livelihood.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, find a good mentor. If knowledge is power, then experience is its application. Looking back, one of the biggest things I wish I had early on was a steady mentor to bounce ideas off of. It would have saved me countless headaches and missteps. While I didn’t have one singular mentor, I was fortunate to build a network of experienced professionals who provided invaluable advice along the way as I started out.
For anyone just starting their entrepreneurial journey, I strongly recommend focusing on these three things early. The growing pains will still be there—but they’ll be much more manageable with the right foundation in place.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always looking for new opportunities—whether that’s collaborating with partners or taking on larger projects. As I continue my journey of owning and operating my business, I’m constantly reminded that innovation and growth are essential to staying top of mind in this industry. With technology evolving faster than ever, you either adapt or get left behind.
