Hi Erin, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

My parents. It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for the generosity, love and unconditional support that they have given me throughout my entire life. When kids have that type of rock solid foundation, it gives them the confidence to go out there and really embrace life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

After discovering calligraphy through a friend in 2017, I was immediately drawn to the unique artistry involved in creating each letter by hand. That artistry is what evokes feeling and emotion, and enhances the overall feel of an event. That excitement for your wedding day when guests receive their invitations and see a beautiful envelope with calligraphy addressed to them. When they take their seats, and see their name in calligraphy on handmade paper or a beautiful piece of sea glass. These details are what set the tone and help create a memorable and elevated experience. Calligraphy is a detail that makes everyone feel truly special! Especially in this digital age, where everything is printed, it really makes an impact when people see something that is created by hand by a real human being.

Nob Hill Jane ® is Connecticut based calligraphy studio offering custom calligraphy, engraving and hot foiling services. Lettering on a variety of unique surfaces beyond just paper, I work with clients on weddings and events throughout New England and beyond, as well as executing live on-site events for luxury brands. I engage with guests while creating a personalized keepsake just for them, strengthening brand loyalty and resulting in a unique & memorable shopping experience.

Prior to owning Nob Hill Jane ®, I practiced commercial and intellectual property law for a firm in Connecticut. Calligraphy started as a hobby, and then quickly turned into a side business that I ran while practicing law and raising two boys with my husband. After fifteen years, I decided to stop practicing law and go all in with Nob Hill Jane ®. I took the proverbial leap of faith as they say, and haven’t looked back!

So who is Jane? Jane is actually my mother’s middle name, and she is the most festive, generous and loving person I know… so including her name in my business felt just right.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Confidence, professionalism & open-mindedness. It’s important to remember that you’re always improving and learning from each situation or job that you’re in, regardless of whether you enjoy it. Every job that I had prior to starting Nob Hill Jane ® provided me with skills that I use in some capacity or another in making this business successful. With time and experience comes confidence in what you’re doing and what you’re capable of doing. The more that you put yourself out there and try new things, the more you learn about yourself and what you can accomplish.
