We recently connected with Christine Xu and have shared our conversation below.
Christine, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
During my middle school years, I transferred to a private school. In that unfamiliar environment, the girls around me were all discussing topics around brands like Chanel and Dior. I stood there, completely unable to join the conversation.
At the time, I couldn’t even pronounce the names of these brands correctly, let alone understand their brand histories. But in an effort to fit into this new environment, I started reading fashion magazines. Little did I know, this would become an obsession.
What began as a desire to belong eventually turned into a genuine passion for fashion design. This is where I found my purpose, to tell compelling stories through my designs and works.
Looking back now, that period of trying to fit in by exploring fashion became the most important turning point in my life. Sometimes, fate works in mysterious ways—what begins as an awkward start can blossom into a beautiful dream.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My own brand HSUX was established in 2022. The name is taken from the reverse order of the first four letters of my name ‘XUSH’. The brand logo is a spider-like pattern composed of these four letters.
My brand focuses on exploring the aesthetic diversity, gender mobility, and fetishism subcultures, observing and reflecting on popular aesthetics, and resisting the mainstream aesthetics, exploring the non-duality of social aesthetics. The design is mostly inspired from medical equipment and military supplies.
For me, HSUX is another way of continuing her artistic expression. Therefore,my thinking about feminism and gender
issues can also influence HSUX’s designs deeply.
“I found that I will always be attracted to the items in the hospital, they bring me such great inspiration. Red is the color of deadly attraction and strong vital force, which makes HSUX alive.”
My brand are currently focusing on 3D-printing jewelry including choker, rings etc and it always inspire and encourage me more when I hear people compliments and appreciation towards my designs.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First, curiosity and a willingness to learn. When I first started, I knew nothing about fashion, but I was determined to understand it. This curiosity not only helped me catch up but also fueled my creativity and passion.
Second, resilience and adaptability. The fashion industry is incredibly competitive and fast-paced. There were moments when I felt out of my depth or faced setbacks, but I learned to adapt and keep going. My advice here is to embrace failure as part of the process. Every mistake is a lesson, and every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Don’t be afraid to take risks or step out of your comfort zone.
Finally, a strong vision. Fashion is about conveying emotions, ideas, and narratives. Start by thinking about what you want to express through your designs. My advice is to stay true to your unique perspective while remaining open to inspiration from the world around you.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Collaboration is at the heart of creativity, and I’m always excited to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for fashion, storytelling, and innovation.
I am looking for partner that are interested in customized 3D-printing collection which could be used in various situation like runways and look-book shooting etc. This allow me to explore more possibilities with designs and by using the method of 3D-printing lots of complex designs could be carried out.
I will offer my full commitment to innovation and pushing creative boundaries with a collaborative spirit and a belief that the best ideas come from diverse perspectives.
