We recently connected with Kyra Hogue and have shared our conversation below.
Kyra, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My mother – the most optimistic person I know – passed when I was 7 years old. After losing so much in life at such an early age, life looked completely unfamiliar. With time and many life lessons along the way, my optimism grew and I began to look at each day with a newfound sense of gratitude and hope. Although it has been years since she passed, I still try to look at life in ways that she would, and she has always been a massive inspiration to me in everything I do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a painter and illustrator at my core. I strive to create art that is bold, textured, and pushes the boundaries of color. Art is everything I do, and one of my favorite things about it is being a part of the community. I have met so many wonderful people from so many different walks of life through art and creating, and it acts as a universal language between us. Recently, I’ve had many great opportunities come about while I’ve been focused on growing my brand and launching my career as an artist.
This past year, I had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside some very talented artists to create a gallery wall art collection for the company, At Home. You can now purchase our work nationwide in stores or online! This opportunity was an experience like no other – countless hours of research, ideation, and creating went into the collection, and the hard work paid off.
Furthermore, I was recently blessed with the opportunity to have my gallery up at Hop Atomica, a local restaurant/brewery in Midtown, Savannah. I look forward to having some more gallery shows in the future, specifically in the Savannah area.
Even in the monotony of everyday life, I’m able to create through passion projects, freelance work, and my part-time position as a paint instructor with Paint the Town.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The ability to connect to others has been one of the most impactful skills in my journey. Getting out there, being open to try new things, and connecting to new people has been such a vital part of where I am and how I got to this point. I believe the unfamiliarity of it all can be the most exciting part of the journey and what life is really about. Many of the opportunities I had along the way came out of getting out of my comfort zone and pushing myself to grow. There have been so many times where I didn’t want to do something or take advantage of an opportunity because just the thought of it made me uncomfortable. But what’s the fun in not trying? Even if you think you aren’t qualified for something, go for it. You’ll never know where it could take you!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! I am always on the look for other creatives to collaborate and connect with. Anyone with a good attitude, strong work ethic, and a passion for color is someone I would love to work with.
