Meet Jeneifer Threadcraft

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jeneifer Threadcraft. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jeneifer, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from being a teen mom and raising 4 kids as a single mom. It has been a lot of trying days for me and I have been trying to make sure that I don’t be a statistic. Having a baby at 14 and living in a home where my mom was stern. I have always wanted to be successful and work with people but I always thought that I would be a registered nurse. But God had a bigger plan for me. However, I ended up in the mental health field and now I’m a License Professional Counselor. I own Positive Peering, Inc Enrichment Center. It’s crazy when I look back at where I came from. Through my journey of life I have been hurt and broken by strangers and family; but I thank God for my children. They kept me going and I’m sorry blessed. I learned just how blessed I was when I lost my son to domestic violence.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Positive Peering, Inc Enrichment is a non-profit organization that work with those in the community that are in need. I started Positive Peering, Inc in a pediatrician office; where I was the office manager. We offer groups once a month and we provided lunch. I went’ from popping the trunks of when I was meeting a client in apartments neighborhood. Giving away food and clothing. To a store front and we offer not only food and clothing but we also offer weekly groups and counseling. After losing my son to domestic violence I started a foundation in honor of him. “Isaiah’s Journey Domestic Violence Against Men ” LET”S TALK ABOUT!! Being strong isn’t easy and I am not strong, I learned how to lean on God and trust him. Every year we provide a back to school jamboree, Annual Giving Back Gala, Cozy Coats and Comforters. Annual Christmas Donation and Toy Give-a-way. We about helping others as well as learning from others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My spirituality and love for God is the major thing that I think has helped me through this journey. Then being a teen mom and raising 4 kids. I had to make sure that I made it for them because being a teen mom is hard. Then my genuine love for people. I almost lost it all when my son was murdered because I couldn’t understand why this had happen to him. While I was in that dark place of grieving I had the time to be to myself and think. I cried a lot of the days but at one point and time, I remembered that God loves me and that as long as treat people the way I want them to treat me; God got me. I am a true believer that you never stop learning because you never stop growing (in knowledge). “If I person stops listening, you stop learning and if a person stop learn he stops growing”. I am a true believer that there is always something to learn.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Oh my!!! Dr. Taunya Lowe has be so helpful to me. She is my mentor and she encourages me to keep going. When I met Dr. Lowe 17 yrs ago it was in a difficult situation but she didn’t look down on me. She encouraged me and told me that she was going to keep up with me and she has. She’s not only my mentor, she’s my shero and when I say she has skills and knowledge, I’m not joking.
