Meet Alexia Abarca

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexia Abarca. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alexia, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I overcame imposter syndrome in photography by consistently practicing and improving my skills, which helped build my confidence over time. Winning state-awarded certificates in video production and securing opportunities, like touring as a photographer, validated my abilities. Most importantly, I focused on my passion for storytelling and the impact my work has, which helped me realize that my contributions matter.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a photographer and videographer specializing in storytelling through visual media, particularly in the music industry. What excites me most about my work is the ability to capture raw, emotional moments that resonate with people, whether it’s the energy of a live performance or the connection between an artist and their audience.

Currently, I’m focusing on expanding my work in music marketing, artist development, and tour design, combining creativity with strategy to help artists stand out. I’m always looking for new opportunities to grow, collaborate, and push creative boundaries, and I’m excited to see what’s next!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were perseverance, creativity, and a deep understanding of people. Perseverance allowed me to push through self-doubt and challenging moments, especially when starting out. Creativity helped me bring fresh ideas to my work and stand out in a competitive field. Lastly, my background in psychology and gender studies gave me an edge in connecting with people and telling their stories authentically.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to stay consistent and keep creating, even if you feel unsure of yourself. Surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you, and don’t be afraid to ask for feedback. Seek opportunities to learn, whether through formal education, online resources, or hands-on experience, and remember that growth comes from stepping out of your comfort zone. Most importantly, trust your voice—it’s what makes your work unique

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge I’m currently facing is balancing creative growth with building a sustainable career. It can be difficult to navigate the balance between pursuing passion projects and securing consistent opportunities in such a competitive industry.

To overcome this, I’ve been actively networking and seeking collaborations with like-minded artists and organizations, such as labels or touring teams. I’m also refining my skills in marketing and artist development to offer a broader range of services, which allows me to support artists in more meaningful ways. Additionally, I’m prioritizing time management and setting clear goals to ensure I stay focused and make steady progress. It’s an ongoing process, but I’m committed to it.
