Meet Lisa Woodhead

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lisa Woodhead. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lisa below.

Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re very focused on here – improving our ability to make decisions. Everyday, we’re faced with decisions that can impact the future of our careers, businesses, relationships and more and so one of the most impactful areas for personal development, in our view, is decision-making. Can you talk to us about how you developed or improved your decision-making skills?

Everything boils down to a choice or decision wether it’s in our daily lives deciding what to eat or in business deciding which lender to choose – it all boils down to decision making. Some of these micro-decisions we do without even thinking but in business I have found that you need to apply more awareness to every scenario where you have an option (or decision) that will result in more than one outcome. Think of it like driving a car and coming to an intersection – do you go left or right? The fact is you don’t know the answer unless you have two things – a map and a destination. In business you need to be super focused on your goal(s) so that every decision you make takes you closer to that goal (the destination). The ‘map’ is having the conscious for-thought to stop and challenge yourself before making every decision and applying the rule ‘does this get me closer…?’

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Car On The Drive was founded over 15 years ago with one car to rent and an idea to become a totally unique car rental service.

Car On The Drive does exactly what it says. We provide an airport transfer service and car rental service combined. We pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your accommodation – where one of our team has already delivered your rental vehicle. All you do is sign and take the keys. No upsell, no waiting in lines, no missing out on drinks on the flight, no navigating to unknown places after a long flight and no stress!

From having one car to rent out we quickly grew and built up a fleet of different vehicles so we could cater to different tastes. We invested in bigger transport vehicles so we could move more people and take larger bookings and today we can handle groups of 20+ and regularly rent 3 or 4 vehicles at a time to such groups.

I’m proud to have set our mission statement to be ‘a totally unique car rental service’ and have this baked into the core of our beliefs as we strive to offer guests a service that can’t be found anywhere else.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Resilience – be prepared to hear ‘no’ a lot! Most of the time when you hear ‘it can’t be done’ it really means no-one has done it before and people can’t figure out how to operate outside of what they know or have come to expect. Sometimes you need to keep your head down and keep going – don’t be disheartened or put off achieving a goal.

Be realistic – set targets by all means but make sure they are smart (simple, measurable, achievable, realistic & timely). You are not going to make a $milliion on day 1. Make sure you plan for some lean years and long hours – these will pay off.

Communicate – sounds simple enough but focus communications within groups and platforms where your customers reside. Social media is over-exploited in my opinion and jumping on every forum and page will only eat through your time and will become unmanageable. do your research and understand where your clients are and then build a communication plan around that. If you want to fish for a trout you don’t throw a net in the ocean!

How would you describe your ideal client?

We offer a service that targets a niche market of travelers. We often get compared to Alamo, Hertz etc but we are not the same and our service goes way beyond what such companies can offer. We work with individuals who put a priority on service and convenience over cost. We have built great relationships with bespoke travel and lifestyle companies who specialize in catering to high net worth clients and we can boast dozens of celebrities as former clients!
