We recently connected with Stephen Davis and have shared our conversation below.

Stephen , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

My purpose is family, friends, and legacy. Always wanting to leave a mark on this world by helping others. Whether it be saving money, providing advice, or giving experiences, the joy of seeing others happy puts a smile on my face. I love traveling with family and friends, which is how the idea of TAKE OFF Luggage came about. By avoiding baggage fees, we all could travel more and have better experiences, so I created a removable wheels suitcase that converts from a costly carry-on into a free personal item. Helping us travel more, but spend less.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Stephen Davis and I am the Founder and CEO of TAKE OFF Luggage. I founded TAKE OFF Luggage in January of 2022 and it has been taking off ever since. I wear many hats as the founder and CEO of a small business and focus on the vision and long term goals of the company.

In just three short years, TAKE OFF Luggage has gained millions of views on social media, made millions in sales, and has been featured in countless publications; it was even named one of Oprah’s Favorite Things 2023. In 2024, TAKE OFF was named an Amazon Executive Seller, and I was invited to speak at the Detroit Pistons Shop 313 event. This year we are focusing on expanding the brand internationally to Europe in addition to creating new sizes for the suitcase.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most important skills that were most impactful in my journey were work ethic, consistency, and YouTube. Work ethic plays a major part in being a business owner as you have to work even when you don’t want to especially when it’s your company. There is no one else to do complete many of the required tasks so you have no choice but to buckle down and complete the tasks if you want to be successful. Consistency is another key area as you will have to find ways to improve your business in any way you can whether it be coming out with new products, posting about the product on social media sites, sending emails, networking, improving the product, or anything you need to keep customers engaged. Last but not least is YouTube. I search and watch many videos on YouTube. YouTube taught me “How To” for many things related to my business from finances, to web design, to marketing, to sales techniques. All 3 of these skills really helped me and continue to help me to this day.

My advice to other folks who are early in their journey is to never give up! I always said if someone else could do it and be successful, so can I. The goal is to start somewhere because if you never start, you will never know what could be. I have tried many times and failed until I found something that worked.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My mother passed last year in February 2024, and the most impactful thing she did for me was teach me to be independent. She was a single mother, so I had to grow up and be responsible at an early age, but this taught me how to care for myself and learn to do many things on my own. These skills have transitioned into my adulthood and business and have become very beneficial in my success.
