We recently connected with Danny Ng and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Danny, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I came from a humble family, I was in the military for 5 years during my early days before becoming a tattoo artist. It was tough during exercises and training and often need to overcome a lot of challenges. Looking back I realised I developed a strong sense of resilience and never give up until I meet my goal.
Starting out being a tattoo artist with zero followers wasn’t easy. A lot of hard work needs to be put in and stay strong mentally is key to success.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Danny, better known as Mr.Pixel and I am a tattoo artist.
I specialize in pixel tattoos revolving around childhood nostalgia. I’m based in Singapore currently but I travel around for tattoo conventions and guest work.
I particularly enjoy creating mash-ups of different video game characters. Combining my clients’ favorite characters into one cohesive design creates a deeply personal and meaningful piece of art. One memorable piece was a full evolution of Charizard, which won 2nd place in the Best Small Color category at The Lion’s Gate Singapore Tattoo Convention.
I’m humbled to be sponsored by Poseidon Office, DrPickles. Being in Pro Team of World Tattoo Event also allows me to travel around the world for tattoo conventions to share and learn knowledge.
Being invited to judge conventions such as the Ancona International Tattoo Convention in Italy or the Ligligan International Convention in Clark, Inkdian International Tattoo Convention etc has also been a fulfilling experience for me. It allows me to share my knowledge and contribute to the broader tattoo community.
To continue growing as a tattoo artist, I plan to travel the world, meeting other artists and exchanging ideas. I’m eager to compete in more conventions, both to challenge myself and to give back to the tattoo industry.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Consistency. Being consistent is the number one advise i would give to any new tattoo artist. Regardless if it’s tattooing, learning new skill set or social media posting, being consistent is key.
Focus. In the tattoo business, focus is crucial for long-term success and growth. It requires dedication to honing skills, keeping up with industry trends, and building a strong reputation. Tattoo artists must stay focused on their craft, constantly improving their techniques
Being humble. Being humble means acknowledging that there is always room for growth and improvement, regardless of how skilled one becomes. Humility allows artists to be open to constructive criticism, learning from others, and seeking mentorship or collaboration when needed.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
During The Lion’s Gate Singapore Tattoo Convention, I’m proud to have won 2nd place in the Best of Small Color category with pixel art. Apart from winning in conventions, I’m also honored to be invited to judge various conventions, such as the Ancona International Tattoo Convention in Italy, the Inkdian Tattoo Convention in Goa, and the ArtisticInk Festival. This gives me a chance to give back to the tattoo industry as an opinion leader.
By constantly seeking new opportunities for learning and sharing, I hope to continue evolving as an artist and contribute to the global tattoo community for years to come.
