We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Lovelace recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
Burnout, for me, wasn’t just about feeling tired, my body was truly wreaking havoc on itself. The stress of overworking was making me physically sick. Not only was I constantly exhausted, I also found myself on a heart monitor and dealing with aches and pains that no doctor had an answer for. For a while, I kept pushing because I thought that’s what success required.
If I wasn’t scheduling my next doctor’s appointment or surgery, I was hoping to muster enough energy after long work days to actually spend time with my daughter and husband. Most days, I was completely drained. I realized I was giving everything to my business and leaving nothing for myself or my family.
I realized I had to start treating my health, my time, and my peace like they mattered just as much as my business. I cut my hours and empowered my team to operate in their strengths and raised my prices so I wasn’t overworking just to make ends meet. I put real boundaries in place– no squeezing in just one more client at the expense of my well-being. I started prioritizing movement and rest, not just for me, but because I wanted to be fully present for my daughter.
My biggest shift was no longer seeing burnout as a normal part of success.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the owner of PRMP Brow and Beauty Studio, an award-winning beauty studio in Washington, DC. PRMP /’primp’/ was created with my past brow (think ‘90s, early 2000s trends’) and first Brazilian wax experiences in mind. My goal was to ensure that the neighborhood nail salon brow and waxing experience would no longer be commonplace. Since 2016, we’ve been doing just that. At PRMP we are dedicated to redefining beauty and self-care through precision brow shaping and results-driven waxing and skin care services so that clients see self-care as a lifestyle not an afterthought.
Beyond that, I’m also an educator, coach and product developer.
I created The Wellthy Esthetician to help other beauty professionals shift from overworked service providers to intentional business owners so they can discover living well beyond the treatment room. I also launched Brow Zhuzh Beauty, my brow care and cosmetics line, with products designed to enhance, nourish and protect the brows, not just fill them in. Our hero product is an Eyebrow Conditioning Treatment that helps nourish, condition and restore brows that are thin due to over-tweezing/waxing. More to come here!
Right now, I’m expanding my coaching programs, from not only 1-on-1 options to now offering an Accelerator with a framework that helps estheticians build sustainable businesses, increase profitability and reclaim their time without burnout. I’m always thinking about how I can innovate in the beauty space whether that’s through education, community, or product development

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three things stand out as game-changers in my journey:
1. Boundaries & Pricing with Confidence: I often chuckle at some of my old service pricing. In my early years, I achieved my goal of being “booked and busy” but that meant that I was making myself too accessible. The truth? The right clients respect boundaries and pricing that reflect your expertise. I had to learn to stand firm in my value. Instead of “booked and busy” my goal now is booked at the right price to allow balance.
2. Business Systems & Strategy: Talent alone won’t build a sustainable business. Implementing sound policies, automating processes, delegating, hiring and creating a client experience that keeps people coming back were integral to operating a business without being overwhelmed.
3. Self-Investment & Community: I never stop learning and prioritizing my personal growth. Joining mentorship programs, hiring coaches and surrounding myself with the right people have been key. With each goal, I look to see who/what would be best suited to help me excel at the next level with clarity, confidence and strategy. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Investing in yourself and learning from people who have failed and learned from it can help you get to your goal faster.
Advice for Those Early in Their Journey
Don’t wait until you’re already burnt out to start fixing your business. Build with intention for the life you want from day one. Charge your worth, create systems and surround yourself with people who challenge you to grow. Most importantly, take care of you because a burnt-out business owner can’t serve anyone, including themselves.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, definitely. I’m looking to collaborate with people and brands that truly care about the well-being and success of beauty professionals.
The Wellthy Esthetician is all about helping beauty professionals build profitable businesses without burning out, so I’m looking to collaborate with experts and brands that align with that mission. I’m especially interested in partnering with mindset coaches, burnout specialists, financial educators and marketing strategists who can provide real, actionable guidance for estheticians.
Beyond that, I’m looking to connect with salon owners, esthetics schools, and entrepreneurial communities to bring The Wellthy Esthetician training to more professionals. And, of course, media partnerships are important too whether it’s podcasts, beauty industry publications, or digital platforms that focus on business and wellness.
