Meet Eilani Flores

We recently connected with Eilani Flores and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Eilani, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic ultimately comes from my parents. From a very young age they taught my siblings and I the importance of commitment. They taught us that once you start something, you have to follow through until the end. They taught us that in life things are not just handed to you, and you have to continuously put in the work to see results. That went for anything, sports, helping someone with a project, or in my case now makeup. I knew from the beginning that this career path was going to be difficult and that there would be times that I would question if this is what I really wanted to do, but I knew that I just had to keep pushing forward and it would all work out in the end. I knew that no matter what I did I had to put my all into it and my family would be there to support me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a makeup artist! My makeup journey started over 10 years ago! I’ve evolved so much as a person and artist throughout this career. I used to be this shy girl who hated talking to people to now being able to network in a room full of people. I’ve been privileged enough to begin building my team and network of people. It truly is so amazing to be surrounded by so many creatives. The two most exciting things about makeup I think would have to be all the people I’ve met a long the way and being able to help bring visions to life. In 2024, I doubled my original goal of how many projects I wanted to work on, so I urge you all to keep a look out for what is to come because it’s all SO EXCITING!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think one of THE most important skills to have as a makeup artist specifically in the film and tv space is to know how to do a no makeup makeup look. I feel it is something that is so over looked especially with all the beauty trends going around on social media. But having the knowledge of being able to create such a delicate look is so important. I also think that my willingness to try things I’ve never tried before when it comes to makeup has taken me so far in this career. I’ve learned to expand my box and not be so safe when it comes to taking creative risks. Another important quality to have is to ALWAYS be kind. Film sets can be intense sometimes, there are deadlines that have to be met, time restrictions, etc. and being able to be kind and understanding in situations like that really can go a long way. It also shows how you are as a person and ultimately can be make or break on being hired. The biggest piece of advice that I would give is to never ever stop learning. Soak in as much information as you can when the opportunity is given to you. Take every opportunity you can even if it’s not paid because you never know who you will meet.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always looking to collaborate with any and all kinds or creatives! If you have a vision in mind that you need help executing or bringing to life, I want to help! Short films, feature films, music videos, photo shoots, fashion shows, etc. I want to gain as much experience as possible! I truly believe that us creatives are the next generation of film makers and the way that we’re all going to rise is going to be with the help of those around us! A lot of times you’ll find that people don’t want to lend out a helping hand to aid in those trying to also make their way in this industry, but I promise you that there are so many people who want to help others grow with them.
