We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joyce Moi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joyce, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose through my late daughter, Janet Lee. Initially, I was doing things with her—supporting, learning, and navigating challenges together. Over time, I realized I was also doing things for her—advocating, creating, and shaping a path that honored her needs and potential. In that process, something shifted. I wasn’t just helping Janet; she was helping me uncover a deeper calling. She became the key to understanding what truly mattered to me—using my skills, my voice, and my heart to make a meaningful impact. My purpose wasn’t something I set out to find; it was something that revealed itself through my journey with her.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Janet Lee’s legacy is at the heart of everything I do. As the Co-Founder of Janet Lee Gallery and a Mentor in Artpreneurship for Neurodivergent Families, my work is about creating opportunities for artists like Janet—those with unique perspectives and extraordinary talent but often overlooked by traditional art spaces.
#Positivity was at the core of Janet’s journey—she faced challenges head-on, never letting limitations define her. She believed in pursuing her dreams despite obstacles, and I was there to support and empower her every step of the way. That commitment didn’t end with her passing; I continue to ensure her voice is heard and her work lives on.
At Janet Lee Gallery, I continue selling her artworks and #ArtBeyondTheCanvas creations, keeping her creative vision alive. But more than that, I help other neurodivergent artists build sustainable careers. #Empowerment is at the heart of this mission—giving artists and their families the knowledge, tools, and confidence to navigate the art world, turning passion into profession.
Our work is also deeply rooted in #Gratitude. Our mentorship is completely free, and we take no commission on artists’ sales. We believe in giving back by creating a platform that uplifts others, ensuring that neurodivergent talent is recognized, valued, and celebrated.
Looking ahead, we are expanding Janet’s impact through exhibitions, collaborations, and new initiatives that amplify the voices of neurodivergent creatives. Janet’s story doesn’t end with her—it grows with every artist we support, every creative dream we nurture, and every person who finds inspiration in her journey.
I invite everyone to be part of this legacy—whether by collecting Janet’s art, supporting our initiatives, or simply sharing her story. Because when we uplift one artist, we uplift a whole community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are:
1) Going Against the Odds – I never submit to the word impossible unless I truly believe it to be so. Challenges are inevitable, but I’ve learned that persistence and resilience can turn barriers into breakthroughs. My journey—both with Janet and in continuing her legacy—has been about pushing boundaries, finding solutions, and proving that neurodivergent artists deserve a place in the art world.
2) The Power of Sharing – I believe in unselfishly sharing my knowledge and experience if it has the potential to brighten someone else’s life. Whether it’s through mentorship, business insights, or creative collaboration, I’ve seen firsthand how openness and generosity can uplift an entire community. Art is meant to be shared, and so is the knowledge that sustains it.
3) A Lifelong Desire to Learn – Complacency is not part of who I am. Moving forward with Janet’s business gives me the opportunity to continuously learn and adapt to the evolving art industry. Staying informed about industry trends, market shifts, and new opportunities not only strengthens our business but also benefits the artists and families I mentor. Growth is a continuous journey, and learning is what fuels it.
My advice for those early in their journey?
– Challenge the status quo: Don’t accept limitations imposed by others; carve your own path.
– Share and uplift: Success is even more meaningful when it helps others grow.
– Stay curious and adaptable: The world is always evolving; embrace learning as a tool for progress.
No journey is linear, but with resilience, generosity, and a thirst for knowledge, you can turn dreams into reality.
