We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittney Townson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittney, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Where do I get my resilience from? It’s deeply rooted in my journey as a DJ over the past 15+ years—a journey full of highs that fueled my passion, and lows that tested my perseverance. I’ve navigated the challenges of everything from failed partnerships to closing businesses, COVID and the over-all unpredictable nature of this industry – but each twist and turn has shaped who I am today, and I wouldn’t change any of it for one second.
At the heart of it all is my unwavering love of music. Music is my anchor—it’s what I turn to in tough times, what inspires me to evolve, and what connects me to the people around me. My passion for continuously bettering myself as a DJ, whether it’s by exploring new genres, honing my craft, or creating unforgettable, deep connections with people, is what drives me forward.
Most importantly, it’s the love of people that sustains me. The energy exchange when I see a dance floor come alive, the shared joy of a perfect track, and the moments when music transforms a night – it’s truly palpable. Resilience, for me, comes from the combination of this passion, purpose, and connection. They remind me why I started this journey and why I’ll keep going.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities and skills that have been:
1. Adaptability
2. Relationship-Building
3. Commitment To Growth
For anyone starting their journey, I’d say: focus on these areas, but don’t forget to enjoy the ride! Celebrate the small wins. Never forget why you started and what makes you special. And most importantly: remember that there is only one you, and no one will ever be quite like you. Embrace your individuality – it’s the most valuable tool you’ll have.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Step Away and Breathe. When the pressure builds, I take a literal and mental step back. A walk around the block or just sitting with a cup of tea allows me to reset. I try my best to be present in the moment. Give yourself permission to pause. Even five minutes away from the chaos can make a huge difference.
