Meet Autumn Kendrick & Lora Orme

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Autumn Kendrick & Lora Orme a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn Kendrick & Lora, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

When you are doing something you love, you automatically become the only one in the room because your passion and light shines through those that are “just doing a job” or “just working to make money.” Lora and Autumn have had a passion for everything paranormal since a young age. It’s not only interesting to them, but nostalgic. As sisters, it is a topic they have loved and shared for over 30 years. The idea of a podcast was a natural fit. On the phone, the sisters could chat for hours about recent ghost sightings or historical phantoms that interested them. Why not record their ghastly conversations for other ghost-lovers to hear? The Boo Sisters have been successful because of their dedication to their podcast as a hobby rather than a business. They spend hours researching new stories, investigating claims, sharing what they’ve learned, editing the audio, and marketing their new episodes. The podcast has quickly become a hit within the paranormal world because the sisters have remained true to themselves, their unique personalities, and their niche. Rather than trying to gain financial support, their goal has always been to create a community. They have created a safe space for others who share their interest, and thus have been successful in gaining thousands of listeners in under a year of podcasting.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Lora and Autumn host the hit new paranormal podcast, Boo Sisters. In each episode, they each share a true haunting or ghost story from around the world. Although there are other paranormal podcasts, there are not very many given the growing paranormal community. Boo Sisters helps offer this community new stories every other week. Their podcast is unique because of their sibling relationship. They are able to humorously play off each other’s stories as well as offer interesting paranormal theories in a way that only a lifelong relationship could offer. The Boo Sisters offer a podcast that is not only spooky, offering historical stories and experiences, but also light and fun. Within the next year, the Boo Sisters hope to offer their fans merchandise as well as special episodes interviewing important figures in the paranormal world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that have been most impactful to their journey have been dedication, passion, and self-belief. If others are interested in starting a podcast, the Boo Sisters suggest choosing a support that is truly something you love because you will be breathing it every second of every day. It’ll be hard, but stick with it and believe that you have something to offer your own community because you do! Every recording will get a little easier.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The Boo Sisters credit their parents for their success. Their dad was always interested in the paranormal and taught the girls to not be afraid of the things they didn’t understand, but to research it and learn more. The more one learns about anything, the less scary it tends to be. Their mom, although she doesn’t believe in ghosts, always supported Autumn and Lora in every ambition and dream. She never told them that they were silly or had bad ideas, even when she didn’t fully agree. Today, both their parents are avid listeners to the Boo Sisters and support their new found hobby.
