Meet Diane Helbig

We recently connected with Diane Helbig and have shared our conversation below.

Diane, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Through conversations with the people closest to me I decided to explore opportunities to start my own business. Those conversations compelled me to take a look at my life’s experiences. I realized that everything I had done, throughout my life, had led me to becoming a business advisor and trainer. In junior high school I was the person other students would come to for help with their struggles. In college I got the nickname “Mom” and it stuck throughout my college career. I developed firsthand experience as a leader in a couple of small businesses as well as a salesperson. I also had the benefit of learning from my father who was a successful salesman and businessman. I felt compelled to help as many small business owners as I could and realized that was my purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

In addition to advising my small business clients, I am currently training professionals in all industries and business sizes. These trainings include: sales, customer service, leadership, and communication. I am so fortunate to be able to work with people who truly want to improve their skills and outcomes. Lately, the hottest topic has been “Dealing With Difficult People” and I enjoy providing my students with real-world, specific tactics and phrases they can use to de-escalate and solve situations.

I am currently working on adding my trainings as online courses on my website.

I also believe in giving back. In that respect I have been a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners Northeast Ohio Chapter and am currently serving as the President of our chapter. I also provide pro-bono webinars for SCORE.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I believe the biggest thing that has impacted my journey is my belief that I can do anything I want to do as long as I’m willing to do the work. In addition, I’m a very good communicator, and am able to see multiple sides of a situation. I’m a pretty good listener and am naturally curious and positive.

For those early in the journey my advice would be to learn all you can, don’t be afraid to try, and that there’s no such thing as failure if you learn something from the experience.

How would you describe your ideal client?

For my advisory services, my ideal client is a small business owner who is interested in engaging someone to help them develop effective strategies and overcome obstacles. They can be in any industry or geography and either be solo or have employees/contractors. They are experiencing some sort of challenge and are unsure how to solve it.

For my training services, my ideal client is a business in any industry or geography that is interested in providing their employees with professional development. They may have a sales department that could use some sales training and strategizing. Or, they may have leaders who could use some training around leadership, communication, feedback, conflict management, or customer service. They may have emerging leaders who need some skill development.
