Meet Katie Mccoy

We were lucky to catch up with Katie Mccoy recently and have shared our conversation below.

Katie, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Purpose is a tricky concept. How does one even identify it—especially for an entire lifetime? I believe it comes down to understanding your core values and living in alignment with them. For me, those values are kindness, fun, open-mindedness, ambition, and freedom. As long as I stay true to these, I feel a sense of purpose.

Life is ever-changing, and if we tie our purpose solely to a job, parenthood, or any single role, we risk feeling lost when those things shift. Instead, I find purpose in the way I embody my values across all areas of my life, whether as a mother, therapist, daughter, sister, friend, or beyond. My purpose isn’t in the roles themselves but in how I show up within them.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My favorite part of being a therapist is supporting people through their darkest moments and witnessing them emerge with greater confidence in their ability to overcome life’s challenges. I specialize in EMDR therapy, a powerful approach that helps individuals reprocess trauma and stressful experiences, fostering resilience. The most rewarding moment for me is seeing that breakthrough in my clients’ eyes and watching them leave our sessions feeling a little lighter.

In 2021, I founded Mindwell Therapy with the goal of creating a space where people feel safe and welcome to show up exactly as they are. A quote that deeply resonates with my work comes from Alice Walker: “Every soul is to be cherished, every flower is to bloom.”

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

First, be kind to yourself. Growth takes time, and no one masters a skill or job overnight—it often takes years of experience to truly excel.

Second, maintain a learner’s mindset. Don’t get stuck in what you already “know”; there’s always room for new lessons, fresh perspectives, and unexpected growth.

Lastly, surround yourself with people who inspire you. Connect and network with those who are thriving in the areas you want to grow in. You are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with, choose them wisely!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

I work best with people who have been in therapy before but felt it didn’t go deep enough or didn’t fully resolve their past struggles. If you truly want to heal and grow but aren’t sure how to get there… I can help!
