We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stella Speridon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stella below.
Stella, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Criticism and doubt are inevitable in any field, especially in media and journalism, where you’re constantly putting your work in front of an audience. I view negativity—whether from haters or skeptics—as fuel rather than a roadblock. I focus on constructive feedback that can help me grow while filtering out the noise that doesn’t serve me. At the end of the day, I stay grounded in my purpose, trusting my skills, my experience, and the integrity of my work. My passion for storytelling and delivering impactful narratives outweighs any negativity thrown my way.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At Gut Instinct Media, we believe that the most powerful stories aren’t just heard—they’re felt. As a co-founder and head writer, my mission is to create compelling, thought-provoking content that resonates with audiences on a visceral level. Whether it’s opinion pieces, human interest stories, or brand storytelling, our goal is to tap into the raw, unfiltered truth that often goes overlooked. What makes Gut Instinct Media special is our commitment to authenticity. In an age of information overload, where sensationalism often overshadows substance, we focus on narratives that matter—stories that challenge perspectives, spark conversations, and leave a lasting impact. We operate at the intersection of journalism, public relations, and multimedia storytelling, ensuring that each piece we produce is not only engaging but also deeply meaningful. Right now, we’re focused on expanding our reach and elevating our content through new platforms and collaborations. We’re working on a series of in-depth features covering underrepresented voices, as well as multimedia projects that blend storytelling with immersive digital experiences. We’re also exploring partnerships that allow us to help brands and organizations tell their stories in a way that is both strategic and emotionally compelling. At the core of everything we do is a belief in trusting your gut—following the instinct that tells you there’s a story that needs to be told. That’s the driving force behind Gut Instinct Media, and it’s what keeps us pushing boundaries in the media space.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Storytelling Intuition – The ability to recognize a powerful story and tell it in a way that resonates is at the heart of everything I do. It’s not just about writing well—it’s about understanding the human experience, reading between the lines, and finding the emotional core of a narrative. My advice to those starting out? Consume and analyze great storytelling—whether it’s journalism, film, literature, or even conversations with everyday people. The more stories you engage with, the stronger your instinct becomes.
Adaptability – Media is constantly evolving, and staying relevant means being willing to learn new skills, experiment with new formats, and pivot when necessary. When I started, I focused mainly on writing, but over time, I expanded into multimedia, PR strategy, and digital content creation. For those early in their journey, don’t box yourself in—explore different mediums and platforms. Having a versatile skill set will make you a stronger storyteller and a more valuable professional.
Perseverance – Creative and media industries come with challenges—rejection, criticism, and unpredictable shifts. What’s made the biggest difference in my journey is trusting the process and staying committed to the vision, even when things don’t go as planned. My advice? Find your “why”—the deeper reason you do what you do—and let that fuel you. Surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you, and don’t let fear of failure hold you back.
Ultimately, success isn’t just about talent—it’s about consistently showing up, staying curious, and believing in your voice. If you do that, everything else falls into place.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One book that has profoundly impacted my personal and professional development is The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. While it’s often seen as a dark and introspective novel, its themes of identity, ambition, and mental resilience have resonated with me in unexpected ways.
One of the most powerful takeaways from the book is the metaphor of the ‘fig tree,’ where Esther envisions each branch as a different life path—writer, traveler, professor, wife, mother—but is paralyzed by the fear of making the wrong choice. This deeply resonated with me, especially in my teen years. It reminded me that while opportunities may feel overwhelming, indecision can be more limiting than choosing a path and embracing it fully.
Another key lesson is the novel’s unflinching honesty about the pressures of success and societal expectations. Esther’s struggles with perfectionism and self-doubt mirror the internal battles many creatives and professionals face. It reinforced for me the importance of prioritizing mental well-being alongside ambition and redefining success on my own terms.
Finally, The Bell Jar is a testament to the power of voice—how raw, honest storytelling can illuminate hidden struggles and make others feel seen. As a writer and journalist, this book solidified my belief that storytelling isn’t just about information; it’s about connection, vulnerability, and truth.
For anyone navigating ambition, identity, or creative uncertainty, The Bell Jar is a reminder that while challenges are inevitable, the ability to articulate them—and push forward despite them—is a strength in itself.
