Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dinika Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dinika, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My purpose kind of stumble upon me during Covid I originally thought of and wanted to start Eva Christine’s Sweets in 2013 but I was busy with my full-time job is an athletic trainer in the collegiate setting. When Covid hit it gave me the opportunity of time at home to research, practice and start Eva Christine’s Sweets up. It took off from there and I haven’t looked back.
The purpose is not only to provide sweet treats to customers, but to also honor my grandmother’s Eva Mae and Christine, who were both bakers and are amazing women. I am able to talk about them to my customers and share about their love for family and baking.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been gifted by God with an artistic gift. I have always loved art and painting. Now I am able to use that love for art and translate it into creating and designing cakes. Edible art! When customers place orders for cake they give me themes, colors or ideas and I take that and design a cake for them. For my engaged couple I draw cake designs out for them to be able to choose their wedding cake design. Art makes my soul happy.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The qualities I feel that have been most important for me is discipline, perseverance and no fear of failure. With having a full time job I have to be disciplined enough to get my to-do list done eve when I am tired. Perseverance because business is up and down. Sometimes I will be extremely busy with cakes and then there is time where there I have so much free time. I’ve learned to use the free time to create new ideas and explore what designs I’d like to try next. Not fearing failure has allowed me to not be boxed into one style or design and allowed me to explore.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
