Meet Felix Velez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Felix Velez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Felix, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

My giving nature stems from my dad. When I think of him, I think of his unwavering kindness. He passed away when I was only 6 years old. One of the few things I remember was that he owned a fruit stand at a local farmers market. Even though we were struggling, he would always find a way to help others who were less fortunate. Everything was done with the shake of a hand and never any written contracts. He always held the idea that people were inherently good, and that has stuck with me and holds a major influence on how I run my business.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

If I was to describe myself, it would be similar to P.T. Barnum in that he believed in providing a great experience at an affordable price that families can enjoy. That is essentially what we try to do for the Pueblo community with SoCo Comic Con.

Our convention isn’t your standard convention. Many conventions are only booths filled with vendors and artist usually from across the nation. Our focus is in building the community through featuring local talent.

We also aim to provide interactive attractions free of additional charges as well as more in depth meet and greets with our celebrity guests so fans can create memories.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My sales experience plays a large role in how I conduct business today. My personal life experience from being homeless helped me to gain perspective and empathy for people who are struggling in life.

The three qualities that I was able to hone from my past are understanding, resourcefulness and accountability.

My advice would be to tap into the life experiences that you don’t believe are an asset because in reality they shape us in more ways than we can ever possibly imagine.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

We are always looking to get more of the community involved in our event through sponsorship so that we can maintain the affordability and continue growing the experience to reach more families and fans.

Sponsors can reach out to us through our website www.SoCoComicCon.com or email [email protected]
