Meet Mariellen Timmreck

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mariellen Timmreck a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Mariellen, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience has always been at my core.

I learned some very hard lessons early on in my life. The youngest of six children, my parents divorced when I was two years old. This was my introduction to a life filled with loss, disappointments, various types of abuse, neglect, abandonment, and many other mental, physical, emotional, financial, and spiritual challenges.

Despite the obstacles, something deep within has always whispered, “Don’t give up. Something better is coming. You have a purpose.”

Though I never understood what it was (or how to get rid of it in times when I wanted to quit), that feeling…that voice…has always been deep inside of me.

It wasn’t until I was in my thirties that I understood the origin of that “voice” of resilience; the feeling that allowed me to press on through each and every difficulty I faced. The thing that granted me the capacity to withstand anything that came my way. That source is my Creator.

From being rescued from the abortion my father desired for me in utero, to surviving a severe auto accident, to escaping my abusive
relationships, to raising my three children on my own for over two decades, to recovering from spinal surgery, my will to keep going stems from the knowledge that I have been created for something greater than what I can fully grasp.

This is what fuels me from within and has continued to guide me in my purpose ever since I was a little girl. This “fire” that radiates my entire being is the core of my resilience.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My current focus is continuing to build upon my non-profit and for profit businesses.

Through my own personal journey, I specifically have a passion and calling for meeting the needs of single moms and their children. This is the purpose and goal of each of my businesses.

Through Coaching (Life, Nutrition, Fitness, Financial), Resource Endorsing, Veterinary Medicine, and a Benevolence
Fund, I seek to assist single moms and their children (as well as the community as a whole) in areas where other agencies and organizations lack, in order to strengthen communities…one family at a time.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I think the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are:

1) Education (both formal college and informal experiential knowledge).

2) Determination

3) Will Power

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My biggest area of growth or improvement in the past twelve months has been gaining the ability to walk away from toxic people and situations, even and especially if they have previously been in my life for many years.

Due to the abandonment issues I developed in childhood, I had been a “people pleaser” for most of my life…to my detriment. However, healing from past traumas and learning to let go of the people that have kept me “stuck” has been extremely liberating and peaceful. Detaching from the toxicity has allowed me exponential growth in both my personal and professional life.
