Meet Natasha Pressley

We were lucky to catch up with Natasha Pressley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Natasha, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

Throughout the years, even before i could pin point exactly what it was, I have struggled with depression and anxiety. To overcome those struggles, I really owe all thanks to my family support system, my ability to create, and my faith. If it wasn’t for my parents constantly affirming me of my talents and power in this world, it would be a harder road. I wouldn’t have been able to push through mental blocks and lift myself up to fight for my dreams. Creating has served as an outlet to tell my story, and help others through theirs.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

About me….. I am a multi-medium artist with knowledge in sewing, tufting, painting, crochet, and illustration. My very first job was teaching children and adults how to sew their passion projects, and ever since I’ve worked in the creative field. I was lucky enough to experience the New York fashion scene while attending college at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. It completely changed my life and the way I viewed the world. I really got to know my creative self in a way that seems so surreal now, and honestly I wish I enjoyed it more while I was there. Shortly after graduated in 2019, I created my business is Natasha Lynne Studios, founded in 2020 during covid. Similar to most I was laid off and tried to make the most out of my situation. I started selling masks on my website (www.NatashaLynneStudios.com) and soon people wanted to support my other creations. I was fully self-employed selling bags, blankets, and even portraits.
As people started going back to work, the traffic on my site died down a little, and I got a day job as a bridal seamstress. This really helped take my sewing to the next level int terms of construction and speed. It was a tough industry but there were a lot of things about the job that enjoyed. Not only am I still in a creative field, but I could now afford to invest a little more into my business. Slowly I started to vend more and find different events to be involved with. Selling in person gave me the opportunity to meet other creatives and gain new customers that may not have found my website otherwise.
Today my focus is to regrow my customer base and reach my target audience. My art highlights story telling through bright colors and funky shapes. My favorite pieces to create are splatter rugs and coasters. I love seeing the joy it brings to people viewing the fun shapes and color combos that my brain creates.
As far as new things, I would say keep an eye on my TikTok, instagram, and website. I really feel the itch to get back into more sewing, so I’m excited to see where that takes me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Thinking outside of the box, having a community of creatives, and being absolutely delusional have been extremely impactful in my journey. I’m still not exactly where I want to be, but I would say to others, never give up. Believe in yourself to the point where others might fear for your sanity. You have to do it before others follow suit.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always looking for creatives that host vending pop ups in the Philadelphia area (and outside boarders). I’m trying to fill the upcoming months with different art events so if that’s you, my instagram is @Natashalynne_designs.
