Meet Lena Williams

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lena Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Lena , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I would like to believe my resilience comes from my family. Particularly my grandmothers Great examples on both sides. Brave, strong women that persevered in spite of all the odds. They both taught me so much about how to endure.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am the Program’s Director for People for Mobility Justice. I create and curate curriculum, and experiences for pedestrians and bicyclists all over LA County. I teach a host of classes that focuses on Bike safety and helping folks to become more confident cyclist.

I am a part of Ride On Bike Shop + Coop in Leimert Park. I manage the staff , bike education snd ride curation for the shop.

I am also the owner of a small pet care business that supports family’s in and around Leimert Park.

I am super passionate about bike safety and getting more Black and Brown people out cycling/riding safely. Riding a bike has changed my life for the better it has expanded my views and provided a much needed outlet- it is now a part of my spiritual practice. It is a moving meditation, and many of us like to call it ‘bike medicine.”
My love for dogs lead me to pet care. It’s a healing practice also, there is so much we can learn from animals and so much we can learn from leading with love. I am thankful that the work that I have been called to do allows me to care for my community while leading with love.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the three qualities/skills that were most impactful are : patience ( allowing things space to be, and being OK with the outcome, perspective ( my ability to reframe things have been super helpful to keeping me going through the more challenging times) and lastly, being resourceful.

I think the first step that folks should take is learning themselves. prioritize you. Deepen their knowledge of who they are. Once you know self all other challenges are easier to handle.

Spend time alone. Notice your habits, when you feel your best, when you don’t feel so great. Create a habit/pattern of doing things that set up for success.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

I think the largest challenge right now is being able to reach my monolingual Spanish speakers directly. We offer translation for most of our programming but it isn’t lost on me that it limits the information. I would love to be able to offer my programming in Spanish so I am seeking out opportunities to learn the language. .
