Meet Mindy Whetsel

We recently connected with Mindy Whetsel and have shared our conversation below.

Mindy, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I had to learn resilience very early in my life. Growing up as a child of divorced parents, I was constantly shifting between two very different environments, and that in itself taught me how to adapt. On top of that, I faced personal challenges that I never really had the chance to process or address—things like sexual abuse that were never acknowledged. I didn’t have the support or understanding that I needed, so I had to find my own way to overcome and move forward. It wasn’t easy, but it built a strength in me that I carry with me today. Overcoming those early experiences shaped how I view challenges now. I know I can handle a lot, even when it feels like everything is falling apart.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My first and most important job is being a mom! Professionally though, I’m a photographer located in Indianapolis, IN who is always open & willing to travel! I typically capture weddings, couples, maternity, families, and events. I started my LLC 2 years ago because I’ve always had a love of photography and life has taught me that it is certainly too short not to pursue your dreams. I think how I stand out is by wanting to grow with my clients. I want to capture a couple who are just starting to fall in love, then their engagement and wedding, and eventually their maternity & newborn stages, and then capture their family ever year afterwards. I truly want to become friends with clients & cheer them on in every stage of their life!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most important qualities most impactful for my journey are determination, faith, and perseverance. I think all three of these things work together when trying to achieve anything in life. I started a photography business because I was determined to, I had faith that it would work out that way it was supposed to, and although it’s tough to start a small business I just kept pushing myself…especially when I was at the most uncomfortable parts.

It’s cliche, but my advice is to never give up on your dreams or passions. Keep working hard at your craft. Stay determined. Work harder when it’s most uncomfortable because that means change is coming. Have faith that your hard work will pay for itself and that your moment is indeed coming. Because it is.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Hands down, my husband. I could write a whole book about him and what he has done for my life & career, but I’ll save all of your readers from that novel. He just grounds me. He pushes me to be better and to do better in all aspects of life. I wouldn’t be at this point in my life without him, his support, and his encouragement to chase my dreams.
