We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amethyst Marrone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amethyst below.
Hi Amethyst, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I actually still find that I struggle with this one. I’m sure like many in business themselves, it’s hard to not feel like an “imposter” at times. In the early stages of building Lovely Thyme Events, I often questioned whether I was ‘qualified enough’ to lead a multi-service event company. There were moments when I compared myself to larger, more established businesses, and imposter syndrome would creep in. But I quickly realized that my passion, creativity, and the personal touch I bring to every event is what sets me apart. When customers tell me how appreciative they are with how invested we are in their event, that proves that we have something many other businesses do not. I believe it is so important to make the customer feel that you want their event to go just as well as they do. For example, when I do a mobile bartending event and it has a fun theme, I am right there for the theme with a customized menu and I even dress up in the theme if they want! It’s those little personal touches that make a difference in my opinion.
We all have self-doubts! I know mine tend to come in waves and I have to really remind myself of why I started the business in the first place. I focused on my experience, leaned into my unique vision, and reminded myself that clients choose us because of the quality and authenticity we provide. I also surrounded myself with a talented and motivated team that believes in our mission, which reinforced my confidence. Now, instead of seeing imposter syndrome as a setback, I use it as a signal to step into new challenges with the mindset that I belong in the space I’ve created. I hope I’m able to inspire someone who may also be struggling with this or maybe it is keeping them from starting that business they’ve dreamt of!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi Everyone! My name is Amethyst Marrone and I am the proud owner of Lovely Thyme Events, where every celebration is crafted with care and creativity. What started as a mobile bartending service, born from a love of crafting unique cocktails and creating memorable experiences one drink at a time, soon blossomed into something much bigger. Today, Lovely Thyme Events is a full-service event planning company, offering a wide range of services including photography, DJ entertainment, catering, event planning, and on-site event coordination.
Our mission is to transform your event vision into reality with meticulous attention to detail and a personalized approach. We strive to make every event, from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations, truly special and unforgettable. Thank you for considering us for your next occasion! We can’t wait to be crafting timeless moments with you, one event at a thyme.
I am a Wife, mother of two beautiful daughters, and full time Naval Officer with over 20 years of service to our great nation! I did start this venture with retirement on the horizon, but have decided to dedicate a few more years to the service and continue to build my business on the side until that day arrives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Definitely drive, determination and time management! I love doing the creative stuff and not so much the admin stuff… but you can’t really have success without the not so fun stuff. So dedicate some time to that and you’ll be better off for it!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I would have to say the book the Go Giver.
The Go-Giver was a game-changer for me because it reinforced the idea that success in business isn’t just about what you get—it’s about what you give. In building Lovely Thyme Events, I’ve seen firsthand how leading with generosity, value, and service creates deeper relationships and long-term success. The book helped me shift my focus from transactions to transformations—ensuring that every event we create isn’t just an experience but a meaningful moment for our clients. It also reminded me that true influence and growth come from genuinely caring about others, which has been key to building a strong reputation and loyal clientele. The principles in The Go-Giver continue to guide how I lead my team, serve our clients, and expand our business with integrity and purpose.
