Meet Hayley Dunhoff

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hayley Dunhoff. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hayley below.

Hayley , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

As a 31 year-old Jewish Israeli American living in South Florida. I am a Cosmetologist, 300hr RYT, certified herbalist, reiki practitioner, and a musician. I was born in Latrobe PA and I grew up in Tel aviv Israel. I moved to Israel when I was a 13 years old a bold, spunky teenager, and I dreamt of becoming a Broadway singer someday. Moving to Israel wasn’t on my bucket list, but I know it meant a lot to my mother who was born in Israel, and who had all of her family there. Growing up in Israel I learned the language, learned the culture. learned how to make Israels exotic delicious foods. At the age of 15 I picked up the guitar after going to my first concert while visiting America. My brother Adam took me to see the Foo Fighters live. From that moment on I knew I wanted to be a musician. Over the years I studied theater and music theory I even went to college for art and music. Growing up I knew I looked different having black curly hair hazel green eyes and a different nose compared to the rest of my peers. That never seemed to bother me through my rock phase, my hippie phase. my Indy phase, I somehow managed to look and feel successful. Moving back to the United states from Israel definitely brought me back a sense of confidence and freedom. Comparing both countries I recognize such great differences and I try not to compare because both places definitely blessed me and help me become the person I am today. Life in Israel was not easy although it was beautiful and fun at times very scary with bombs or terrorists nearby. The one thing that I’m truly grateful that I learned growing up in Israel is that life is truly a blessing and we must enjoy each moment that we are gifted with, because none of us know what day may be our last.

When I am feeling self-conscious in a room where I feel like I don’t belong, I always remember these three things:

1.) My breath – try to take slower breaths and just focus on your breathing.

2.) My posture – this will instantly improve your confidence.

3.) Always dress on point – when you dress nice you will feel more confident, and I like to think of it like dressing my avatar. When you look at it like that it’s more fun almost like a video game.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

If I could give my younger self any advice it would be these three tips:

1.) Don’t take anything personally.

2.) Always choose kindness.

3.) Slow down.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The most important book that comes to mind anytime someone asks me which book changed your life the most. I would have to say “The four agreements”.

I’ve read this book probably five or six times and each time I learn something new

1,) Be impeccable with your word.

2.) Don’t take anything personally

3.) Don’t make assumptions.

4.) Always do your best.
