Interview with Ned Zaina: The Australian Talent Making Waves in the Global Dance Industry

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ned Zaina. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ned, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in dance?
Absolutely! I grew up in Australia, where I trained in multiple styles of dance from a young age. My early career was heavily influenced by my time performing with Opera Australia, where I was fortunate to be part of productions like La Traviata, The Merry Widow, Turandot, and The Magic Flute. These experiences gave me a strong foundation in performance, storytelling, and stage presence. Over time, I knew I wanted to expand beyond traditional Theatre and push myself into the commercial dance world. That transition led me to work with Magic Mike Live Australia, Dirty Dancing Immersive Cinema, and eventually into touring with some of the biggest names in music.

You’ve worked with some huge artists. Can you share some highlights from your career so far?
I’ve been incredibly lucky to perform with artists like Kylie Minogue, Paris Hilton, Lana Del Rey, Sam Smith, and Shania Twain, and to take the stage at events like the Grammys, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, WeHo Pride, and World Pride. One of the most memorable experiences was dancing on Gloria Trevi’s North America Tour and RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under Tour, where the energy of the crowds was just electric. Each show, each tour, and each collaboration has taught me something new about myself as a performer and about the power of movement in live entertainment.

You recently worked on the upcoming Robbie Williams biopic Better Man. Can you tell us about that experience?
Yes! I had the honor of being Robbie Williams’ dance double in Better Man, particularly in the (She’s the One) dance sequence. This was such a unique and surreal experience because it blended my love for dance with cinematic storytelling in a way I hadn’t experienced before.

Working on a film set is very different from a live performance it requires a completely different level of precision and detail because every movement is captured for the big screen. It was an incredible learning experience, and I’m so excited for people to see it!

You’re now collaborating with creative director Mikey Minden. How did that partnership come about?
Mikey Minden is someone I’ve always admired his work with Paris Hilton, the Pussycat Dolls, and Erika Jayne. All Have been such a big part of Iconic commercial music and dance culture. Our collaboration started when I was cast in Paris Hilton’s, Icons Only, Infinite Icon Show And IHeartRadio Performance where Mikey was Creative Directing. From there, we built a strong creative relationship, and I’m now involved in a multi-year collaboration with him on new projects in live performance and commercial dance. It’s been an incredible experience working alongside someone with such a visionary approach to stage production.

What do you love most about performing?
For me, performing is about connection with the audience, with my fellow dancers, and with the music itself. There’s an energy exchange that happens on stage that’s hard to describe but impossible to ignore. Whether it’s a stadium full of people or an intimate setting, I love the feeling of stepping into a performance and completely immersing myself in the moment.

Looking ahead, what’s next for you?
Right now, I’m focused on continuing to grow as a performer and expand my work in both live entertainment and film. The collaboration with Mikey Minden is a big part of that, and I have some exciting projects on the horizon that I can’t wait to share soon! I also want to keep pushing the boundaries of what dance can be not just as a supporting element in entertainment but as the main storytelling vehicle. Whether that’s in music videos, feature films, or high-concept stage productions, I want to be part of projects that use movement to create something truly unforgettable.

Any advice for aspiring dancers looking to break into the industry?
The best advice I can give is stay ready and stay adaptable. The industry moves fast, and opportunities often come when you least expect them. Train in as many styles as possible, build strong relationships, and never stop learning not just about dance, but about the business, about performance, and about what makes you unique as an artist. And most importantly, trust your own path. Everyone’s journey in dance looks different, and comparison will only hold you back. Stay focused, work hard, and know that the right opportunities will come when you’re prepared to take them.

Where can people follow your journey and keep up with your work?
You can follow me on Instagram (@NedZaina) for updates on performances, behind-the- scenes moments, and upcoming projects. Excited to share what’s next!

You’re embarking on some exciting new collaborations. Can you sharemore about them?
Absolutely! I’m thrilled to announce that over the next few years, I’ll be collaborating closely with Asher Entertainment and its founder, Chris Downey-Asher. Asher Entertainment is a premier production company based in Los Angeles, known for creating custom shows, choreography, and live acts across various platforms, including red-carpet events, corporate shows, music videos, and touring concerts. Chris is an incredible creative force, and I’m excited about the innovative projects we have planned.

In addition to this new partnership, I’ll be continuing my collaboration with creative director Mikey Minden. We’ve built a strong working relationship through various projects, and I look forward to exploring new opportunities in live performance and commercial dance with him.

Both of these collaborations represent an exciting next step in my career, and I can’t wait to share more with everyone as these projects come to life!
