Meet Tiffany Lawrence-Young

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Lawrence-Young. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tiffany , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my drive to meet my goals—once I decide on something, it’s happening. But when I became a mother, my resilience became bigger than just me. It became about my sons—their happiness, growth, and security. I wanted them to see, firsthand, what a strong, independent Black woman looks like. I needed them to understand that strength isn’t something to fear or resist—it’s something to respect, learn from, and stand beside.

That same fire drives my work as a doula and educator. Supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum isn’t just my passion—it’s life-saving work, especially for Black and Brown women. Our lives literally depend on better care, better education, and real advocacy in birth spaces. I see it every day, and I refuse to stand by while the system fails us. That’s why I’m always finding new ways to better support my families—through education, resources, and making sure they walk into every birth space informed, empowered, and ready to advocate for themselves.

So, I keep pushing. Not just for me, not just for my boys, but for every Black and Brown family I serve. Because rising—no matter what—isn’t just something I do. It’s something I teach, something I fight for, and something I’ll never stop demanding for us all.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Tiffany Lawrence, a full-spectrum doula, lactation consultant, and childbirth educator with nearly 13 years of experience supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My work is life-saving and necessary, especially for Black and Brown women, who deserve better birth outcomes, education, and advocacy.

Through Motherly Touch Childbirth Services, I provide doula support, childbirth and lactation education, and new research-backed courses for birth workers and parents, including advanced lactation, new parent education, and postpartum sex education—all designed to be interactive, engaging, and empowering.

I’m also expanding my birth worker apparel line and writing two books—an urban Black erotica collection and an eBook on building the right birth team.

At the core of everything I do is this: Black and Brown families deserve to thrive, not just survive. If you’re looking for support, education, or collaboration, let’s connect!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three key things have been most impactful in my journey: resilience, adaptability, and education.

Resilience – This work isn’t easy, and life will throw curveballs. I’ve had to push through challenges, pivot when needed, and stay committed to my goals no matter what. Advice: Build a strong mindset. Know your “why” and remind yourself of it often. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you.

Adaptability – Birth work and business constantly evolve. I’ve had to adjust to new research, shifting client needs, and even my own life changes. Advice: Stay open to learning. Things won’t always go as planned, and that’s okay—what matters is how you adjust and keep moving forward.

Education – Whether it’s formal training, hands-on experience, or community wisdom, knowledge has been my foundation. It’s what allows me to truly support families and advocate for them. Advice: Never stop learning. Take courses, find mentors, read, and stay updated. The more informed you are, the more impact you can have.

For those just starting, be patient with yourself but stay consistent. Growth takes time, but every step forward matters. Keep learning, keep showing up, and most importantly—stay true to your purpose.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Just like raising children, running and growing a business takes a village, and I’ve been blessed with an incredible one. There isn’t just one person who made the difference—it’s been a village of powerful women who have poured into me, guided me, and supported me along this journey.

Chanel of Ancient Song started me on this path almost 13 years ago and has continued to pour into me throughout the years. Nubia of Birth From the Earth was the first to see my potential as a midwife assistant and has always been just a phone call away with guidance and support. Tenesha, my IBCLC mentor, has not only helped me grow in lactation work but has always been there, offering support, wisdom, and encouragement whenever I needed it. Tracie, the founder of NBDA, created a space for people who look like me, giving us the resources, support, and confidence to tap into our craft and thrive in this work. Cherise of Soul Sistas Birth Services saw how impactful my classes were and offered me a collaboration I couldn’t refuse, helping expand the reach of my work. Laura of Laura Nance Education has helped me advance my teachings so I can educate more people and have a greater impact. Dr. Mitchell of Birth Sanctuary extended me a place at the birthing center, giving me an incredible opportunity to grow and serve families in a new way.

Beyond my professional circle, my sister circle keeps me grounded, reminding me that balance is essential in order to run this business and serve my community. To Rachel, Simone, Donna, Janelle, Heavenly, and Sadesha—I thank you for being my rock, my sanity, and my safe space.

I’m also deeply grateful for the many people who have shared my name in rooms I’ve never even stepped in—those silent supporters who have helped open doors and create opportunities. This work isn’t just about me; it’s about community, about lifting as we climb, and I’m honored to be surrounded by such a powerful network.

And to my amazing sons—I’ve raised you alongside this business, and you boys have allowed me the privilege to do so. You’ve been there since the beginning of this journey, watching me prepare for events, attending several throughout the years. As long as you had snacks and WiFi, you were fine, letting mommy handle business. From long road trips to support families to late nights getting home, you guys handled it all like champs! You even took it upon yourselves to advertise for mommy, casually telling pregnant women and new moms, “My mommy can take your baby out!” or “My mommy can help your breasts work!”—which, of course, I had to quickly explain! But your belief in me, your patience, and your trust in this process means everything. I love you boys!
