We were lucky to catch up with Jenni Ogden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jenni, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I love that question although I don’t have a very clear answer. So my question back is did I find my purpose or did my purpose find me? I am an entrepreneur, creator, storyteller, producer in new and emerging formats and technologies. I lean into social impact storytelling across formats.
I love the journey, and the seeds of ideas, inspirations, things that matter to us seem to evolve and grow into something new and surprising years later. The aha moment when you realize it’s all connected and coming full circle can spark inspired action to create or build something new. That is exciting to me, life’s great adventures unfolding into stories, experiences and new ventures. I want to inspire, build bridges, empower a vision for the world we want to create, usually that is creative story, world building, experiential, immersive no matter the format and for me often means jumping in and leading by the seat of my pants.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a creative entrepreneur, storyteller, creator and producer. I produce across formats, particularly emerging formats from location based to digital, immersive & interactive. My passion is social impact storytelling that speaks to the heart and inspires positive action, and love the technologies that allow experiential storytelling.
I am founder/CEO of Eye Q Productions, a boutique production company specializing in immersive design, 3D mapping & projection design for mostly location based entertainment, lots of live theater, theme parks & cruise ships. Covid put a pause on that, so I pivoted with a disruptive technology company and focused my efforts on building a music metaverse. I stepped away from the management of that venture to focus on developing a project that I am looking forward to introducing to the world, and I am currently re-imagining Eye Q as an impact production & technology company, expanding the team and capabilities and leaning into the creation of my own stories from film, tv to immersive LBE & games.
Watch for Metamorphosis + One App to Save the World, an immersive film and mobile AR app created to inspire hope, visualize potential futures and empower environmental activism & education through the mobile game.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
This isn’t really a technical skill but a way of addressing the world and that is inspired action and being willing to fly by the seat of my pants. Having the audacity to decide you want to do something new (change industries, start a business, build something, etc) and just go for it. When someone says you can’t just do that, my answer is likely why not? or watch me! Some of these risks don’t work out the way you hoped, but when the dust settles you will have learned something and you just have to get up and create what is next. So I’ll start with that.
1. Inspired Action – don’t make decisions out of fear or some sense of what others say you should do, only hope & inspiration.
2. I am lucky that I have some strategic and business skills and I am a creative at heart, so I’ve worked in music, production & technology – from the creative or leadership side, I have not learned to code but I have a good understanding of how to harness technology to enable creative experience. This is a team sport & I love the process of co-creating.
3. I believe good leadership is not a power over structure but all about empowerment. I am co-creative, collaborative entrepreneur and I’ve learned this is where I thrive and how I run my businesses. (See above – this is a team sport!)
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I am meeting with angel investors interested in the both the studio and IP as well as impact and philanthropic funds and family offices interested in social impact storytelling, we have a 501c3 for projects to provide tax deductible grants and donations to enable social impact projects across environment, education and mental health.
I have been building an amazing team for the re-imagining of Eye Q Productions, and we’re building a new studio. I am excited to share that we have a woman led team onboard to lead with a co-creative, collaborative and empowered culture.
We have a very talented new CTO onboard that will lead game development and technologies and other strategic team members dedicated to harnessing new and emerging formats and technologies with a focus on social impact.
