We recently connected with Mahalia Hicks and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mahalia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I was lucky enough to find my purpose pretty early on in life. I was in my first play when I was four and HATED it! Then I remember watching “Pirates of the Caribbean” and seeing Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow swinging on ropes and jumping from one ship to the next thinking “Oh…that looks fun.” I’ve been hooked on acting ever since

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hi, I’m Mahalia! I’m originally from Philly and have been living in Los Angeles for the past 3 years. I’m a HUGE horror/thriller fan! I’ve been watching them since I was little even thought I probably shouldn’t have. I’ve recently joined a production team called “Ghouls of the Night” where I will not only play part in the films, but also extend my knowledge on behind the scenes work such as writing and directing.

In her spare time, you can find me working with another one of my passions: dogs! I’m a full time doggy daycare worker and up and coming trainer. Some day I want to combine my the two and make a company where I will train animals to be on camera.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the most impactful things I’ve learned in this journey is to have a “delusional” amount of self belief, openness for critique, and good judgment.

My best advice to those early in their journey is to always remember what you want! You can’t forget your real reason. Your real purpose for being. Remember what you really want, focus on that, and make your life around that thing! Your current situation is important and you should care about it. You just can’t let it consume you more than your dream

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am ALWAYS looking to work! Especially if the project sounds fun and different. I like working with people who are specific with details, open to new ideas, challenging, and willing to have a good time while we create something amazing. While horror/thriller is my favorite thing to do, I also love being pushed out of my comfort zone and am open for anything that seems like a challenge for me!
