Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rugo Reefy . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rugo , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience came from the environment that I was brought up in. Poverty stricken, lack of resources, and the risk of becoming a product of which I come from. To add icing on the cake, it also comes from the ups and downs that I’ve faced as a young teen and adult. Hitting rock bottom with your back against the wall does something to your soul and mindset: you’re either going to fold or fight. I chose to be solid.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I come from the greatest city in the world… Westside of Detroit, MI. Everybody here has a story to tell and a light to let shine, I’m glad God blessed me to give my point of view.
I started my entrepreneurial journey back in 2015, I’m self taught with everything that I do; from fashion to photography. My short term goal is to get out the rat race of the work force and full time business owner. I know the time is near, I can feel it.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, my 3 strong areas were my diligence, prayer and hard work. I just didn’t quit, and needless to say: it’s still a fight that’s well worth it.
The advice for the youth and individuals like my self that I could offer is to stay hungry and find what motivates you. When there’s no motivation… seek the discipline within yourself. Your motivation and discipline comes from those positive and negative results. You learn more from the let downs and failures because you can see what areas can use improvement and strengthening for the next go-round. Don’t quit, don’t give up, keep going , nothing can stop you.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Big homie up top (God). Always has been and always will be. My parents, my siblings, nieces and nephews. Newly, my wife and our two daughters. They’ve all taught me to strive for the next level, focus, discipline and selflessness. Those are strong qualities that you need in any business, creativity and life. I’m beyond thankful.
