Meet Ntagoma Michelle

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ntagoma Michelle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Ntagoma, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I think I have always knew my purpose since I was a child. Because children don’t think about what others can think, what is possible and impossible to do based on their abilities or circumstances, they follow their authentic self without boundaries. As adults we have so many responsibilities that take us away from our purpose. I didn’t find my purpose because I always knew about it, I chose to believe in it and fight for it as an adult, which is not an easy job.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a filmmaker and content creator even though it’s still difficult to accept these roles because of the imposter syndrome today I am learning to fully accept that. I have studied film & television in London College of communications. Then I came back in Belgium because I couldn’t see myself starting my journey as a filmmaker somewhere else then here since it is the country that welcomed my family 25 years ago. Life was not easy after uni, the Belgian cinema industry is very different from London, I didn’t have any connections within to help me start my career so I slowly lost interest because of money issues and pressure from my parents. Fast a year later, I started a course to become a community manager. I have always liked social media and creating content so I was thinking why not try to make money out of it and offer my services to people. It was such a great experience and I have learned a lot. I was able to work with a woman for her brand, but then I realised I didn’t like it. So I stopped working for her and today I am turning back to my passion cinema and fashion. I create content and am currently the first ad of a wonderful and inspiring short film. I also joined a Christian production label called Light series, we made a feature film called Parcours with 3 premieres which 2 of them where sold out, and now we are working on a second film and more projects.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As a content creator and filmmaker the 3 best qualities to have are curiosity, open-minded, and bold. Be curious, go outside, ask questions, talk to people even strangers, you never know the story these people will tell you. The world is a place filled with stories and these stories start where you are, at home, at work, in the bus, in the sky. Listen to what people say and write it down. The second is to be open-minded. Opinions might differ but it is important to listen and try to understand their point of view especially if you like to write, understanding the other side can help you write better characters in your stories. Being open-minded can also lead you to wonderful places, try to say yes to that event and see what you can discover there. The last quality to have I would say is to be bold, say what you think, don’t stay in your corner, hiding, speak your truth and don’t let anyone crushing your dream, because these people don’t know where you had to go through to stand where you are standing today, they don’t know the nights and days of hardship and the moments you just wanted to give but you did not. Keep on walking and fighting and be as bold as you can, so you won’t have any regrets when you will look back to your life.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Currently, I am facing the imposter syndrome which I know is a common thing as an artist. It becomes more and more difficult to assume my role because I don’t feel like I am doing enough, I don’t feel like I am giving myself the way I should, even when I meet new people I don’t tell them what I do because I don’t want them to know and start to look after my work. It’s a real struggle but the way I am trying to resolve this syndrome is to assert my identity because the imposter tells me that I am not something while my identity is clearly telling me I am, and I believe the lie instead of believing the truth. It’s a work in progress but writing down who I am as a person and an artist helps me remember and fight the lies I believed for a very long time.
