Meet Naomi Barnes

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Naomi Barnes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Naomi below.

Naomi, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I would say I get my work ethic from my mother and my own life experiences. Growing up, I watched my mom hold a high status in her department at work due to her work ethic and good character. I would always watch and listen as much as I could so when I started working side by side with her I got to hone in and really showcase what I was learning and it made me feel accomplished to see her pleased. Once I became an adult and started working on my own, I was able to overcome just about every obstacle with ease in the workplace and eventually in my personal life as well.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Naomi Barnes and I’m an artist located in Wyoming. I am self taught, and have basked in the flames of art since the young age of three. I started out drawing my own coloring pages, and growing up I was exposed to multiple different techniques and mediums via crafts and projects throughout my school years. I’ve always had a deep love for simply creating, in whichever way I saw fit. I have since created my own art business. I have been featured several times in the local Cheyenne art museums and Denver Magazine. I have even gone international with my clients as I have recently expanded and added Anime to my portfolio!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My determination, creativity, and knack for details has been most impactful in my art journey as well as my life in general. As long as you stick to your vision regardless of what obstacles, even if uncomfortable you have to be prepared to pivot and still regain your footing towards the goal. When you pay attention to details in ways that you best perceive, you are less likely to be easily distracted and can make logical moves silently similar to a chess game. In order to be successful you need to have a plan or multiple that all result in a favorable or desirable outcome. Otherwise, you’d just be overworking and overexerting which would lead to early burnout and creative blocks. Ava we don’t want that!

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

A book that has played a significant role in my development has to be The Four Agreements. This book was categorized as such;
“Be impeccable with your word”
“Do not take anything personally”
“Do not make assumptions”
“Always do your best”
I do think each point is a bit self explanatory however when you apply each lesson and/or chapter to your life it becomes personal to your testimony but it’s always fun to go back and say, “Wow! I understand this as I have also experienced x,y,z and learned a,b,c.” Just as an example!
