Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sydney Benn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sydney, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by being authentic and compassionate. I feel like the idea that we as humans have to find one thing we are good at, and stick with it forever is very outdated. My purpose is fluid and multidisciplinary. My purpose is to live, explore my curiosity and help others along the way. I found that by following what genuinely excites me no matter how out of the box or unattainable it may seem, I am always living my purpose. The authenticity that I show up to life with every single day has shaped my value as a multidisciplinary human and artist. Life is a never-ending series of learning, failing, and facing the depths of yourself and the world around us. By truly embodying this I am constantly finding different pieces to the puzzle that is my purpose.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a multidisciplinary visual artist, I enjoy making bespoke mixed-media acrylic paintings. What is most exciting is creating informational and educational content that is shared to Instagram and YouTube under the handle Whhysomoody. I love discussing complex ideas and self awareness in relation to spirituality. I recently published the official website as well! On my website you can find any new releases from art to apparel.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that were impactful on my journey were patience, consistency, and mindfulness. To have patience with the rate of your “success” is completely contingent on your ability to trust God and be consistent. Without patience, one can have a toxic relationship with consistency. This leads to limited beliefs and strongholds that will keep you in the same place for too long. By being mindful, you can access a flow state where creativity seems to be everlasting. I like to stay mindful by engaging in activities that require my full attention. You must face your uncomfort and be prepared to receive criticism, doubt, and fear. But with patience and consistency, you slowly start to realize that success will not come until after you’ve fully embodied all three of these qualities.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Lately, I’ve been reading The Artist Way by Julia Cameron. This book is a 12 week course that caters to the idea that spirituality and creativity are directly connected and must coexist. Throughout the chapters, the author prompts you to explore your own limited beliefs and exposes you to practices and activities that help get rid of creative blocks. I started around the beginning of January 2025 and it has been life changing. The best gem from this book is adopting the practice of doing morning journals. This is when you spend 30 minutes in the morning just journaling whatever comes to mind. It employs you to be completely present and authentic with yourself, leading to drastic changes in mood, energy, and creativity.
