We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael Keith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael below.
Michael, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
When I was just graduating high school, my father was mentoring young adults. One of these adults was Sam. As I was being ushered further into adulthood, I shrugged fatherly advice and started seeking wisdom elsewhere. Ironically, I found friendship with Sam. He taught me, by the way he worked, what it meant to commit to a project. One day he was helping me, and my mom, dig out rose bushes. While working he cut his hand. It seemed like a project stopping event to me, but Sam shrugged off the wound, and pain, denying even a band aid saying, “that’s what the blood is for.” We finished the project to completion in a few hours. I learned that day that sometimes commitment goes beyond circumstances. I also learned the impact of mentorship.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Roofing Technologies Unlimited, our work is about more than just putting roofs over people’s heads—it’s about serving with integrity, excellence, and a heart for both God and our community. Our motto, “For King and Community,” isn’t just a slogan; it’s the foundation of everything we do. We believe that every project is an opportunity to honor God, serve others, and build something lasting.
As COO and Co-Owner, my role goes beyond overseeing operations—I focus on ensuring that every aspect of our business reflects our core values of faith, integrity, and service. From managing day-to-day logistics to building strong relationships with homeowners, business owners, and contractors, I strive to create an environment where excellence isn’t just a goal, but the standard.
Our guiding verse is Ephesians 3:16-18, which speaks of being rooted and established in love and having the strength that comes from Christ. That’s exactly how I aim to lead—rooted in faith, driven by love, and committed to serving others well. Whether we’re restoring storm-damaged roofs, guiding homeowners through the insurance process, or expanding into new projects, we approach every job with the belief that it’s about people first, business second.
What makes Roofing Technologies Unlimited special isn’t just our craftsmanship, but our heart posture. We believe in doing what’s right, even when no one is watching. We believe in treating every homeowner and business owner with honesty, respect, and care. We see roofing as an opportunity to bless others, provide protection, and be a light in the industry.
We’re also excited about the future! As we continue to grow in the greater Houston area and beyond, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of roofing innovation while never losing sight of our core mission: to serve well, love well, and work with excellence.
If you’re looking for a roofing company that stands on faith, values people over profits, and is dedicated to building with integrity, we’d be honored to serve you.
“For King and Community”—always.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, the three qualities that have shaped me the most are faith, courage, and knowledge. Each one has been tested, refined, and strengthened through experience, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
Faith has been my anchor. There have been seasons of uncertainty, moments when I questioned if I was on the right path, and challenges that felt impossible to overcome. But through it all, I’ve seen firsthand that God is faithful. He provides strength when I feel weak, clarity when I’m uncertain, and peace when things feel chaotic. Ephesians 3:16-18 reminds me that being rooted in God’s love is what gives me the strength to keep going. My advice for anyone early in their journey is to trust God fully—not just when things are going well, but especially when they aren’t. Keep Him at the center of everything, and He will guide you.
Starting a business, leading a team, and making big decisions all require courage. There have been times when I’ve had to step into situations that felt overwhelming, but I’ve learned that God doesn’t ask us to have it all figured out—He just asks us to trust Him and take the next step. Joshua 1:9 has been a powerful reminder for me: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” For anyone starting out, I’d say this: Don’t let fear stop you. You will make mistakes, you will have setbacks, but courage isn’t about being fearless—it’s about trusting God enough to move forward anyway.
Early on, I realized that faith and courage alone weren’t enough—I had to be willing to learn. There’s so much I didn’t know when I first started, and I’m still learning every day. Whether it’s through mentors, experience, or just trial and error, gaining wisdom is essential. Proverbs 4:7 says, “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” My advice? Stay humble and teachable. Seek out people who have walked the path before you. Ask questions, be willing to learn from mistakes, and never stop growing.
Through all of this, I’ve come to realize that success isn’t just about what we build—it’s about who we become in the process. For me, everything comes back to our motto: “For King and Community.” My work, my leadership, and my life are all centered on honoring God and serving others. If you’re just starting out, hold onto faith, walk in courage, and never stop learning. You never know how God will use your journey to impact the lives of those around you.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I believe it’s far more effective to lean into your strengths rather than trying to be great at everything. We all have God-given talents, and when we focus on what we do best, we can operate with confidence, purpose, and efficiency. That doesn’t mean ignoring our weaknesses—it means being self-aware enough to recognize them and wise enough to surround ourselves with people who complement our skill set.
When my brother and I decided to go into business together, it wasn’t just about starting a company—it was about leveraging each other’s strengths to build something greater than we could alone. My strengths are in leadership, strategy, and operations, while his strengths are in sales, vision, and culture. Instead of trying to force ourselves into roles that didn’t fit, we embraced what we each did best. I focus on building strong systems, ensuring operations run smoothly, and making strategic decisions, while he thrives in casting vision, fostering a strong company culture, and driving sales growth.
That dynamic has made all the difference. If I had tried to take on sales or culture-building, or if he had tried to manage operations and logistics, we wouldn’t be where we are today. By trusting each other’s strengths and staying in our respective lanes, we’ve been able to grow the business in a way that feels both natural and sustainable.
For anyone early in their journey, my advice is this: Own your strengths, and don’t be afraid to partner with or hire for your weaknesses. If you’re great at one thing but struggle in another, find someone whose strengths complement yours. The key to real growth isn’t trying to be well-rounded—it’s building a team where each person thrives in their God-given abilities.
At the end of the day, success isn’t about doing everything—it’s about doing what you do best and surrounding yourself with people who bring out the best in you. That’s been a game-changer for me, and I know it can be for others as well.
