Meet Ryan Finch

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan Finch. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ryan, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?

My ability to take risks comes from my confidence in my ability to evaluate risk, decision making skills and being able to accept the outcome. I don’t see failure or a negative outcome as a final result. I see them as learning experiences and chances to improve upon going forward. I work to improve my chances of success as much as i can but also recognize that I can never control 100% of everything leading to an outcome. I also believe that if I don’t take risks and continually move forward personally and in business, I will be stagnant and that is a scarier outcome than taking risks.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

We have a unique focus within the wealth management industry. As a person with significant real estate and banking experience prior to shifting focus to wealth management, I found that the resources for getting advice on real estate as it relates to someone’s financial plan was very limited. There are many highly qualified comprehensive financial planners out there but it’s hard to know everything. My goal was to build a firm that would be able to compliment what other financial advisors to and partner with other advisors and companies to be a resource for them when their clients have real estate questions including 1031 exchanges and investing in private real estate syndications. We also provide various tax strategies that many other advisors either do not do and or are not aware of. I think it’s very exciting to be able to share strategies and options to clients that they didn’t know where possible. I really enjoy combining various strategies to help clients achieve their goals in ways they didn’t know were possible.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. My ability to analyze real estate investments from my experience as a commercial real estate analyst and lender for large regional bank plus working as an analyst for a real estate development company specializing in multi-family and senior living.
2. Strategic thinking from my experience working out problem commercial real estate loans during the last financial crisis. I saw that most of the clients that had issues with their real estate loans/deals had no one to go to for guidance and where in deals that many never truly understood going into.
3. Listening to what the client truly wants and what their goals are to create custom solutions that work best for them.

I think reading books and listening to experts in your field to leverage the experience of those that are doing what you want to do.
Finding a mentor or mentors that are willing to coach you and share their experiences.
Ask questions, don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t know something.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My parents were very supportive of my Entreprenurial spirit as a kid. I tried several different small business ventures as a kid and had to borrow relatively small amounts of money to try them. I had to pay my parents back with interest but they encouraged me to try and didn’t shut down my ideas before I at least tried them.
