Meet Rohit Garg

We were lucky to catch up with Rohit Garg recently and have shared our conversation below.

Rohit, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My father is the source of my resilience. He’s a living example of constant self-improvement. He wasn’t always the perfect father, but he recognized areas where he needed to grow and made the necessary changes. Facing financial constraints, he adapted, learned new skills, and started a business to support our family. He’s encountered numerous challenges, from business partnerships gone awry to difficult family relationships, and even a serious health scare. But he never gives up. He embodies the idea that resilience is about adaptability and a continuous commitment to personal growth.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

For the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working with industry-leading cloud providers like AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud. My passion lies in leading software teams to conquer complex technical challenges and unravel intricate software architectural puzzles. What truly excites me about this work is the constant stream of new problems that demand innovative solutions. Every day presents a unique opportunity to push the boundaries of technology and create something impactful. It’s like solving a giant, ever-evolving puzzle, and the satisfaction of finding the right piece is incredibly rewarding. In essence, my brand is about driving innovation through strategic problem-solving in the cloud space.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

– Customer obsession
– Stay technology agnostic and focus on software design
– Lead by example

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My most significant mentor has been myself, through consistent self-reflection. I was instilled with the importance of authenticity at a young age, and that principle has guided my approach to developing essential skills. I’ve found that true growth comes from honest introspection. When faced with challenges, whether it’s mastering a new software stack or debugging a complex error, I prioritize understanding my own limitations and identifying areas for improvement.

This process of self-assessment allows me to proactively address skill gaps and adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of technology. I recognize that change is the only constant, especially in the software industry, and particularly with the rise of AI. By staying true to myself and continuously evaluating my strengths and weaknesses, I’ve been able to build the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in this dynamic field.
