We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brodie Leftridge. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brodie below.
Hi Brodie, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Playing sports all my life help me develop resilience. I played baseball at The University of Tennessee for four years and it taught me hard work doesn’t always pay off. The lessons I learned from sports embody who I am today. I understand if you stay consistent with your craft you will exceed your craziest dreams,
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I created a clothing brand called Dear Sylf, but it is more than just a clothing brand. Dear Sylf is a fashion brand that specializes in creating unique, upcycled clothing pieces. Our collections feature one-of-a-kind items, such as vintage Carhartt jackets and custom-designed apparel, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and individuality. Each piece has a letter written that promotes mental wellness. My cornerstone letters are “You are what God designed you to be.” and “Stay out of the garden where plants only root for themselves.” These are pivotal statements that help ground myself in a time of need. I am very excited to share my passion and creativity through fashion and spread positivity to the world in a time of need.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Growing up playing baseball at a high level taught me how to persevere through tough times. Success wasn’t always there even when I put in the work. I started to understand that hard work does not equal success necessarily, but understanding failure and learning how to pivot is where the true success lies. The three qualities that were most impactful on my journey are discernment, perseverance, and patience. The advice I have for people early in their journey is that whatever you are going through is suppose to happen, don’t let it deter you from continuing the mission.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The way of the superior man played an integral part in my mental and professional development. The main point of the book emphasizes how to understand your emotions and learning how to listen and respond with clarity. This was a catalyst for my thinking behind the idea that success isn’t about being the smartest or the best at something. Success is caused by being able to handle everyday stressors. Being a master at handling stress will bring you much success.
