Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayleandrah Childs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kayleandrah , sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

Creating a business of my own was one of the most fulfilling and difficult things I have ever done. I had self-doubt and the anxiety of financial insecurity in the beginning. I had anxiety and restless nights as a result of the ongoing pressure to do well. I sought mentoring, established a solid support network, and put my wellbeing first by practicing mindfulness and establishing boundaries in order to get past these obstacles. Rather than being afraid of failing, I welcomed failures as teaching moments. I gained adaptation and resilience from this experience, two traits that still serve me well in both my personal and professional life. In addition to helping me advance professionally, my entrepreneurial journey has bolstered my self-assurance and mental fortitude. Making cakes, cupcakes, and dipped strawberries was only one aspect of starting my baking business; it also played a significant role in my journey toward mental wellness. Making baked goods has always been a way for me to express my creativity and find calm. When I first started it as a business, I battled stress, self-doubt, and the pressure to succeed. However, as time went on, I came to understand that baking offered me a feeling of accomplishment and purpose. My confidence and sense of worth were increased when I saw clients happy with my works and realized that my work made other people happy. I learned perseverance, patience, and the value of self-care from the process of creating something from the ground up. Baking became my getaway on bad days; it allowed me to focus on what I loved and find my core. I’ve gained stronger stress management skills, learnt to appreciate little victories, and discovered a balance between job and mental health as a result of this trip. In addition to fostering my professional development, running my own firm has improved and empowered my mental well-being. But I found that my mind was at ease when I was in the kitchen, preparing batter or decorating cakes. [Insert personal experience—e.g., coping with anxiety, going through a challenging personal circumstance, or feeling lost] was one of the most trying times for me. Baking became my therapy during that time. My mind was calmed by the concentration and accuracy it demanded, and when everything else seemed uncertain, making something lovely with my hands gave me a sense of achievement. My confidence increased along with my business. I was reminded that I could make my passion into something worthwhile when I watched others savor my cakes, cupcakes, and dipped strawberries. Baking gave me purpose and healing in addition to financial support. Even on days when I’m feeling down, I remind myself why I started: because baking makes me happy, and happiness is something worth clinging to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My Baking Enterprise & Interest I am happy to be the proprietor of a bakery that specializes in cupcakes, dipped strawberries, and custom cakes. What began as a personal hobby swiftly expanded into something more comprehensive—a means of making people happy with exquisitely prepared and delectable delights. For me, baking has always been an art form, a creative outlet, and a means of adding even more sweetness to life’s important moments—it’s more than simply a business. What Sets My Business Apart The most exciting aspect of my job is being able to transform a straightforward dessert into something special. Every order, whether it’s a birthday cake tailored to fit a child’s favorite theme, sophisticated cupcakes for a wedding, or exquisitely dipped strawberries for a special occasion, is created with love and care. Making delicacies that not only taste great but also unite people is something I’m proud of. What’s New and Coming Up I’m now focusing on growing my company by adding more patterns and flavors and providing personalized dessert packages for bigger gatherings. Additionally, I’m looking for ways to make my goodies more widely available, whether it be through partnerships, local pop-up events, or perhaps future shipping options. My main objective is to make treats that provide joy to others. I enjoy taking part in my customers’ festivities, and I’m excited to expand my company in ways that will let me to use baking to bring even more joy to others.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Resilience and Perseverance Starting a business isn’t easy—there were times of self-doubt, issues with orders, and days when things didn’t go as planned. But I learned that setbacks are part of the journey. Resilience is what kept me going, even when things felt overwhelming. To those who are just starting out, I would advise accepting mistakes as teaching moments. Continue moving forward, make necessary adjustments, and never forget why you began.
2. Creativity and Focus on Details Baking is both an art and a science. From designing intricate cakes to perfecting flavors, creativity is at the heart of what I do. Customers enjoy distinctive, beautifully created desserts, so I’ve learnt to always challenge myself to explore new techniques and styles. For those starting out, I’d say: Never stop learning! Watch tutorials, attend courses, and experiment with different designs—growth happens when you venture outside your comfort zone.
Skills in Time and Business Management While having a strong passion for baking is important, managing a business successfully also calls for time management, pricing strategies, and organization. I had to learn how to balance creativity with efficiency—making sure I meet deadlines while maintaining quality. My recommendation? Learn the basics of running a business early on, whether it’s budgeting, marketing, or customer service. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help or invest in tools that make your workflow smoother. Ultimately, enthusiasm is what propels everything, but tenacity, creativity, and business understanding are what turn a dream into a lasting success.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

When I started my baking business, my best strength was my inventiveness. I enjoyed creating original tastes and dessert designs. Customers were drawn to my artistic designs, and that helped set me apart. However, I had trouble with business; I wasn’t good at pricing my goods, handling money, or marketing. At first, I tried to do everything on my own, but I quickly recognized that disregarding the business aspect was hurting me. I wasn’t charging enough for my work, and I was constantly overwhelmed with orders because I wasn’t managing my time efficiently. I concentrated on learning just enough to run my business more intelligently, such as setting proper prices for my goods and streamlining my workflow, rather than attempting to become an overnight financial expert. If I had only focused on my strengths, my creativity would have kept me going, but I might not have built a sustainable business. On the other hand, if I had obsessed over my weaknesses, I might have lost sight of what made my business special in the first place.
