Meet Caesar Lima

We were lucky to catch up with Caesar Lima recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Caesar with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

Working in the fashion and beauty field for a long time, I realized that I was creating a false narrative about beauty.
Perfect bodies, amazing wardrobes and well retouched images didn’t tell a real story.

I decided to create a fine-art project called The Unusual Beauty on which I wanted to portray a different kind of models, real people with real issues, people with skin conditions such as nevus, vitiligo, albinism and unusual birthmarks.

Proving that beauty is indeed more than skin deep, this project concentrated on models and even regular day-to-day individuals that have rare skin conditions, such as congenital melanocytic nevus which involves visibly pigmented proliferations on the skin, and Vitiligo, discolorations of the skin caused by depigmentation.

I photographed Mariana, Stephanie and Barbahat in Brazil, Polly and Reuben in London and Yulianna and Andre in Los Angeles.
I met these beautiful human beens that transmit love and confidence, very special people!

While my lenses are focused the topic on the skin conditions and unusual birthmarks, the intent is not to show them for how different they are, but rather to celebrate the beauty in the unusual.

Caesar Lima is a well-regarded commercial and advertising photographer known for his innovative and creative approach. With a career spanning over two decades, Lima has built a reputation for his unique and visually compelling imagery that often challenges traditional perspectives. Known for his dramatic and stylized portraits, he captures the essence and personality of his subjects in a unique way.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

perception, awareness and persistence

The UBP is an on going project and I would love to meet and photograph people with unusual skin conditions.
