Meet Christine Göös

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christine Göös. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christine below.

Hi Christine, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

You’re not taking on large enough challenges if they don’t terrify you a little; some of my most prominent moments of growth have come from reframing imposter syndrome as a marker of ambition. On a practical level, trusting yourself comes from coming in prepared and knowing you’re basing your work on data, experience, and strategic thinking.

Lastly, I think it’s healthy to also question whether your imposter syndrome is a result of challenging yourself or external expectations often cast on women.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a New York-based marketer, creative writer, and LinkedIn content creator with 14 years of experience across ad and influencer agencies and high-growth SaaS. I’ve worked at Smartly.io and Celtra, both of which had successful exits. My work lives at the intersection of storytelling, internet culture, and strategy.

Right now, I co-host House of Content, a podcast exploring internet culture together with my co-hosts Janni Widerholm and Melissa Kontu. They’re both creative leaders working in Los Angeles. We are actually launching on YouTube for season five in April! The show has been featured in Marketing Brew and Muse by Clio, which has been incredibly rewarding. Before that, I hosted The Brand-Side podcast, which reached over 500K streams and featured conversations with industry legends like Madonna Badger.

Along the way, I’ve picked up recognition from award shows like Cannes Lions, The One Show, and Eurobest. I was also named Storyteller of the Year in the 2021 Top Women in Marketing Awards and have represented Finland at both Cannes Young Lions and Eurobest Young Creatives.

Fun fact: I grew up touring Europe with my third-generation circus family. I still can’t juggle to save my life, but I’ve definitely learned how to keep a lot of things in motion.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Writing is single-handedly the most important skill to finesse as a marketer. Writing is thinking, it’s restructuring ideas, It’s making sense of the whole practice of marketing. The onset of generative AI will make mediocre marketers lazy in their craft as they won’t get that same level of craft through years of repetition. If you train this muscle, it will set you apart.

Building your personal brand is another must-have. Not everyone has to be a creator, but having a sharp and personable perspective on your industry will help you stand out. I’ve created content on LinkedIn for a few years now, and I’ve noticed that whenever I’ve had to change jobs, the cycle and process has accelerated the more I’ve become known in my niche of B2B marketing. I’m still a small creator, but I just signed my first brand deal earlier this year!

Finally, the ability to mirror marketing to business objectives to drive growth will future-proof your career, even if you’re more focused on brand and communications. Working closely with revenue leaders and understanding how your work impacts business means you’ll be taken seriously in any room. Learn the numbers, learn to communicate about your impact effectively.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

I am immensely inspired by MacKenzie Green. She is a brilliant marketer, business leader, and creator who is the VP Social at Future, What started out as a para-social relationship (I listened to her podcast) has now blossomed into a friendship and a peer mentorship, we are even taking the stage co-running a session at Influencer Marketing Show USA.

She has taught me professional intentionality where you lay the groundwork to your next move well in advance through skill-building and thought leadership.
