We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cashmira S. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cashmira below.
Cashmira, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As a mother and food enthusiast, importance was placed on creating wholesome, nourishing, easy and delicious food that was made at home. My work ethic is deeply rooted in my upbringing and the values instilled in me by my family. I was surrounded by hardworking individuals who demonstrated the importance of dedication, perseverance, and integrity. These principles have guided me throughout my career and continue to drive me in everything I do.
Cooking is considered the highest art form because it appeals to and connects with all five senses. This chutney is such a labor of love for us that it does not feel like work. Even though we are at it round the clock, it feels more like bridging a culinary gap and sharing cherished secrets from our little family recipe box. Old recipes are considered a gift, and this is one that we felt compelled to share.
This enthusiasm drives us to share our vibrant green magic in a jar with home kitchens and chefs, bringing people together through the joy of food, culture, and shared experiences.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Perfecting this signature chutney for over a decade, we’re Cashu and Tan, the spirited mother-daughter duo behind Elephant Green Chili Chutney™.
Our chutney chronicles kicked off when Cashu (a former recipe columnist, culinary enthusiast and talented home chef) was persuaded by Tan (an economics-driven foodie on a mission to share her mom’s chutney mojo) to bring their cherished green chutney to every table.
Simple ingredients with just the right notes, this delectably addictive chutney is inspired by Cashu’s culinary adventures in New York City, her Indian roots, and her family and friends’ obsession with this secret blend.
Its versatility is boundless, effortlessly enhancing or adapting to almost any culinary creation, making it a kitchen essential.
At Elephant Green Chili Chutney™, our mission is clear yet profoundly heartfelt: to share our passion for vibrant flavors and wholesome food, making every cook’s journey, across cultures, just a little easier and a lot more zesty. Our elephant stands tall, symbolizing our unwavering commitment to the natural quality of our products, ensuring reliability you can always count on.
We believe food is more than just sustenance—it’s a way to express love, celebrate life, and connect with one another.
At just 150 days since our launch, we’ve partnered with 2 distributors, over 10 retailers, conducted a bunch of demos, and we’re only just getting warmed up.
We are thrilled for you to join us as we stir up our chutney tales.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on our journey, three key qualities have been instrumental in our success: resilience, adaptability, and a developing a deep understanding of our market. Resilience has allowed us to navigate challenges and setbacks with determination, ensuring we stay on course even when the going gets tough. Adaptability has enabled us to pivot and innovate in response to changing market conditions and customer needs. Lastly, gaining in-depth market knowledge has been crucial in making informed decisions and staying ahead of trends.
For those just starting out, my advice is to cultivate these qualities actively. Build resilience by embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. Enhance your adaptability by staying open to new ideas and being willing to change course when necessary. Finally, invest time in thoroughly understanding your market—research, listen to your customers, and stay informed about industry developments. These efforts will lay a strong foundation for your journey ahead.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We are actively seeking product reviews and collaborations.
We’re looking for chefs, home cooks, and food magazines to review our products and share their thoughts. If you’re interested in partnering with us, we’d love to hear from you!
While we have received quite a few glowing reviews, reaching out to various magazines and capturing their attention has been quite challenging, especially without a PR agent.
In the meantime, Stay Zesty, Sweet and Spicy!
