We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kenyah Harbin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kenyah below.
Kenyah , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
Generosity comes from within, but as a child I often saw my mom help people she didn’t even know. We would walk to a grocery store and on the way she would speak and wave to everyone and stop and chat just enjoying the path, along the way she would reach in her purse and hand a total stranger change or dollars from her purse. My mom is the most generous person I’ve seen, she will help a stranger laying on the sidewalk. She told me never to laugh or make jokes about people for having less than me or for not looking like me, because those people may have just broke or lost everything and just gave up in life. She said one nice gesture can change someone’s life or make a difference in their day. I’ve carried that from a child. I feel good helping others. I get my kindness and generosity from my mother
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Ever since I could remember I’ve done Fashion. My mom had six children and 5 of us were girls, I was on my own as far as what i wanted to wear and it was easy for me to compare and match things together to get the perfect outfit! I can put something spectacular together in minutes, don’t give me time to put anything together it will be Jae dropping. My sense of style is really my own and for some reason no matter what I put together I seem to always be in trend or ahead of trend. But yet still original. In 2022 I had my first fashion show just months after the birth of my daughter Korea. I was celebrating 5 years in business and so excited to celebrate it on the runway. Fashion shows are also my thing. As a teen i walked in many community events and I also put on a show for my senior project with the help of my classmates. July 2026 I plan to do my 3rd big show. I also plan to expand state to state doing a pop up tour. I want to be worldwide by my tenth year if not sooner. But I trust timing and when the time is right, my family owned brand will expand and be successful
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’m self taught so I can go on and on about my failures and successes but I must say the top 3 would be find your audience don’t worry about who isn’t there along your journey but cherish the people who are there and cater to those people, don’t waste time on who is not. Also further your education for your craft. Being self taught can only get you so far, you have to always be the student and don’t get big headed. Pay attention to details and don’t put out products just to gain a profit. Take pride in your craft and people will gravitate to the genuineness and originality. Stay humble and true to you!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
When I read the book of life and realized I had the power to change my life, my mind, my surroundings, my finances, and everything else. I started to think differently. I felt like a new woman knowing I had some type of control over my destiny if not full control. We all know life be lifing, but to know I can change my circumstances had to be the best feeling in the world. That book changed my mind and mindset is everything you need to succeed. Keep in mind failing is apart of your success. You cannot smell millionaire without a L.
