Meet Tenisha Harris

We recently connected with Tenisha Harris and have shared our conversation below.

Tenisha, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

My mother had a lot to do with the confidence and self-esteem that I carry now. Growing up, she would always have me to look in the mirror and say “self, I love you” or ” you are so beautiful” but as a child, I couldn’t comprehend. Her words would go in one ear and out the other. Fast forward to middle school, puberty hit me hard. I would get teased by the kids all the time about my acne. It crushed me. HOWEVER, in the midst of all the negative comments, I would hear my mom’s voice saying,” you are so beautiful, never forget that” etc. and that made me feel 100% better. I would never let them see me sweat, I just continued to believe that I was beautiful no matter how I felt or what I looked like. Because of her love and daily self-affirmations, it helped me along the way to always walk and talk with confidence and always value myself or no one will. Now that I’m a mother of three daughters, I see more than ever why it’s so important to pour those values into our children, as it helps shape their future. Reminding them to honor the power of their presence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

LoveTAB Gourmet Apples was inspired by my late son, Tariq Butler, who passed away from cancer (Neuroblastoma) at the age of 2 years old. Years after his passing, I was still finding it difficult to coop during anniversaries and birthdays. So, I channeled my inner talent on 7/12/2016 (my son’s anniversary) and decided to make my girls a candy apple. They came out perfect to my surprise! That was the day making candy became my passion and dream.
My vision for this business is to expand and continue spreading awareness about childhood cancer and raise money for research. Our business actively donates to George Mark’s Children Home and St Jude’s Medical Center.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Everyone has their own journey they’re walking, but what helped me through my own personal journey was staying prayed up, patience and meditating. These three qualities helped me manuever through life. I couldnt imagine not praying and keeping God in the forefront of my business. Every small and large decision I made, I was sure to pray about so that I wouldn’t have to question whether something is a wrong or right move. Patience is a virtue and will get you far. Without it, you can miss possible opportunities. As far as meditating, this is just as important. I believe in the power of the tongue and thoughts. What you believe and speak, shall come to pass.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am always looking to perfect my craft, so I would love to learn and collaborate with another confectioner, candymaker and chocolatier. There’s always a different technique to learn when it comes to making sweets. So, if you’re looking to collaborate, please contact me by email lovetabga718@gmail.com or by calling 817-783-0206.
