We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Suzie Hinds. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Suzie below.
Suzie, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Observation, Imagination and curiosity! Yes! I’m the person who will watch you and all around you. Ask questions, sometimes about weird things and topics. Take walks in nature to discover the smallest fragment of life, close my eyes and feel the breeze. Imagine, then develop what I see, feel and touch into something magical.
Creativity means to me? The ability of turning old into new. Imaginative ideas into a tangible reality. My life has been blessed with many moments of discovery, patterns that connect seemingly unusual situation that guide me to solutions.
Though, my mind can generate a explosion of innovation to a field of crickets. Productivity is not a given it is earned.
By daily acts of innovation, I’ve developed a imagination that is wide and free. Whether I turn to drawing , sewing, writing or design, I fill my soul with the motivation to achieve. Mediation and exercise free the body to expand my thoughts. Staying fit and healthy also increases my creative flow.
Being a part of a creative tribe and environment of women who consistently motivate you to be you. As a Actor/Writer/Costume Designer, I look for guidance from Industry professionals in Jessica Orcsik, Alabama Blonde and Judi Levine, all strong creators who know their craft of expertise. Women who are guiding other women to success.
Find your passion in creativity because it will service you well through life.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My journey to being the CEO of DEVIL PUNK LLC, spends decades and changing career interests. I’m a creative talent who relishes cinematic grandeur. I embellish my stories with dramatic flair, including textures, grit and colors – a real mis-en-scene. In all formats of the industry. This has been my business model.
I have lived nearly all my life on the beautiful island of Tasmania, Australia, which has always been the inspiration for my art. With its vast and varied landscapes and turbulent history, the soul of Van Dieman’s Land gleams throughout my eclectic body of work.
Now in a truly transformative stage of my life, my artistic talents have ventured into the world of storytelling through the mediums of Film, Photography, Costume and Graphic Design. I have many and varied life experiences to draw upon and over the years have embraced the diversity of the human condition that informs my expression through my creativity. This is evident in my new Feature Film Concept, ‘Red Soil’ currently in pre-production. A story of human spirit in a time of despair.
I bring a compassionate, captivating and soulful edge to the telling of a story to captivate an audience and immerse them into another world, providing them with no other option but to leave their troubles at the door for a duration. My Why.
The storytelling is inclusive and explores the key themes from the point of view of each diverse character. To me, it is critical that we see ourselves reflected through Art, documenting our common journeys in a favorable and yet at times, challenging light.
I have lived a life of highs and lows embroiled with many twists and turns which fuel my storytelling with the rawness of varied
emotions of the human spirit that can be thought provoking. Leaving them to discover more about themselves through thought and their voices.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The quality of myself that I treasure the most is the need to discover, go deeper. Without the need to be or do more, you lose the passion to improve. With improvement there is space to grow. By growth we learn to understand each other, what has come before and what will come in the future.
Being open to others thoughts allows us to collaborate with limitless abundance, creating open communications that breaks down barriers and mends distorted beliefs. My hope is for a inclusive platform to express stories that mean change and can bring healing. To tell the stories that need to be told through discovery of past wrongs and future growth.
The discoveries I have made, have lead me to multiple schools, mentors and skills that have guided my journey to unstoppable heights. There is still a long way to go, with many more creatives to meet and collaborations to develop, before I make my journey complete.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Collaborating with others in my field of expertise is my number one focus. The Entertainment industry is about knowing other creatives who also want to develop quality workmanship and tell the stories that have importance. As a new creator from Australia to Hollywood, Los Angeles, I’m always open to meeting and learning from mentors or collaborators like Producers, Directors and Writers of the business. Those who embrace creativity to create a masterpiece.
My new Feature film ‘Red Soil’ tells a heart breaking tale of a spiritual man who needs to save hundreds of lives, to show his love for one. Inspired by historical journals of a religious following, the journey of relationships between all disputing identities, will be harsh and disturbing. When you race against time death is nearly always the outcome. Do they ever consider the valve of a human life? Will their faith in God change the looming demise.
This concept looks at the human nature of what one wants over one’s needs with the conflict that develops in doing the right thing. Or is it the right thing, does anyone know? The characters are rich in flaws, lost in love and hell bent on being right! Just how I love to write characters and stories that are based on true events. Pitch Deck and 111 page Script already developed.
