Meet Shiran Nicholson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shiran Nicholson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Shiran, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Since I started in the events industry at 16, I’ve immersed myself in every facet of the business—from my early days as a professional B-Boy to evolving into a DJ, MC, company owner, producer, event planner, and now venue owner. This journey, built on relentless hard work and hands-on experience, has cultivated a deep confidence and self-esteem, driving me to continuously innovate and lead in the industry.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

At Nicholson Events, I lead a dynamic journey in event production and entertainment, curating immersive experiences for private functions, bar/bat mitzvahs, and corporate events—both onsite and offsite. Our approach is defined by relentless innovation and operational excellence.

Separately, I own and operate The Knowlton, a unique creative hub in Bridgeport. The Knowlton isn’t just a venue; it’s a vibrant space featuring multiple event areas, a captivating mural park, and 27 artist studios dedicated solely to fostering artistic expression and community. Both ventures reflect my commitment to excellence and innovation, each standing as a testament to different facets of my professional journey.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Over the years, three key qualities have shaped my journey:

1. Relentless Problem-Solving: I never take ‘no’ for an answer—there’s always a solution if you approach challenges creatively.

2. Client-First, Collaborative Mindset: I always say ‘yes’ to my clients and emphasize the importance of listening to your clients, team, and peers. This approach builds trust and ensures we consistently deliver on promises.

3. Unyielding Perseverance: ‘Never give up, never surrender’ is more than a mantra—it’s a core principle that drives me to push forward, even when obstacles seem insurmountable.

For those starting out, my advice is to actively listen, embrace every challenge as a learning opportunity, and persist with a creative, client-focused approach.
