We were lucky to catch up with Johnny Rhodes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Johnny , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience probably started from my birth with my natural body, also at a very young age i realize life was already: excuse my french FuxKing me so i had plenty of time to practice. life still doing its thing im just a little better at fighting back.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Well Im a professional DJ. Might not mean nothing to yall but it means the world to me. Some might say its a hobby but for me its how i make my living! Djing is Getting a little bit overcrowded because anyone can do it yes! but it’s more than just playing music. ITs a practice it’s a art, its energy it’s part of my culture. i’m very passionate about it!”it’s more than just music” I kinda wish you had to go to school to study it & get a degree or a license before you can go outside and say you a dj now. not downplaying anyones journey, just wish the practice had more respect to it! I Can’t say to much! but def djing around the country more and new places in the city this year!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
communication is key! I’m so-so at it. Definitely if i was better at it earlier i would’ve gotten to plenty of opportunities sooner. Also didn’t realize a lone wolf has to run with a pack sometimes,so building strong bonds with people has change my life. which is something i develop or time and something i still work on till this day. Even not being skilled in those areas i still made it thru to where im at because of consistency! Consistency has paved the wave for me. just having one opportunity and being consistent has turn into many more opportunities.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
honestly i can’t really say or think that i am at this time of this interview but you know life finds a way
