Meet Briggsy Hamren

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Briggsy Hamren. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Briggsy below.

Briggsy, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Personally, I believe confidence is a skill like any other. And that skill can be practiced and mastered by anyone willing to try. What makes confidence tricky, is that it seems like there is no clear path to it when you don’t understand it. You see confident people and it’s like they just breathe different air or something. But in reality, they’ve just practiced, whether they realize it or not.

What they’ve practiced, is actually easy. They trust themselves and they’re comfortable with themselves. If you don’t have any self confidence, the first thing you need to do is figure out something you like, and get good at it. This will help you build trust with yourself. Once you’re good at something, you know that you can be good at anything. And from there, like I said, it’s just practice. Bonus points if you surround yourself with confident people. Confidence is infectious, just like joy and success.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I truly wake up every morning with gratitude on my mind and heart for the job I have and the companies that I get to be a part of. Currently, I am the Brand Director for a collective of small businesses that includes Lolo Interiors, an interior design studio and retail space, House of Lolo, a thoughtfully curated boutique for women, men, and now babies, as well as Lux Box Agency, a boutique real estate agency and vacation rental management company, all located in beautiful Palm Desert, California.

One of the best pieces of my job is that things are always moving, changing, and up leveling. I’m the type of person that needs that excitement and interest, and I find it so fulfilling to work in an environment that is always challenging me and inspiring growth. Currently, I oversee all aspects of the customer experience, our digital presence both via socials and our websites, all marketing and promotional activities, as well as buying & merchandising for our clothing boutique. Between the three businesses, there is always something going on, usually more like multiple somethings going on at the same time.. and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

For one, I think the most underrated area of knowledge someone can have is for whatever you’re actually interested in. For example, I have always been interested in the fashion and beauty space and my knowledge of current events within that space is always helpful, whether for relationships, strategy or other decision making. I think it’s easy for people to get caught up with being so dedicated to hustle culture and they work so hard that they have no other interests, but that really just is not it! The people you work with are working with you as a person, not just as a professional, and those interests will take you far. Not only do they help you connect with those around you, but they also help keep you aligned with your true purpose – which will always be something that lights you up and brings you joy.

On a more actionable level, I think as a marketer it’s often joked about within the community that we wear a million different hats that somehow all get grouped in with marketing – even though they aren’t. For instance, graphic design, video editing, branding, to name a few. But my advice there is to do everything you can. Take whatever people ask of you and learn how to do it and eventually you’ll have built such an incredible group of skills that will allow you to do your own work better, provide clarity on your journey and allow you to stick to the things you actually like doing.

Lastly, a quality that will take you so far is having a sense of urgency. With everything you do, do it well and do it quickly. People will prefer to work with you, because they’ll trust you and appreciate you.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When it comes to challenging tasks or times, I always fall back on two things to help me navigate and keep perspective. The first, is before anything else, always do the hardest thing on your list. Whatever is most stressful, or whatever you want to do the least, start with that. It will save you time, help you get it over with and done, and make your life so much easier for it.

Next, do it alone. If you’re having a hard time figuring something out, before you bring anyone else into the mix, do it yourself. Think through whatever you’re having trouble with, confused on or struggling with. When it comes to work, I find that most of the time all my problems solve themselves when I’m able to sit with myself and do that task without any distractions or opinions. This is especially helpful for intricate projects and creative work, as I find that a clear vision and clear mind always help me work my way through anything.
