Meet Denise Peise

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Denise Peise a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Denise, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I have always been a creative person. It is something that lives inside of me. I couldn’t stop creating if I tried. I don’t think that I can suppress it. It is inherent and habitual like brushing my teeth or combing my hair.

Nature inspires me. The movement of leaves blowing on the trees, birds singing, a babbling brook. Sights and sounds around me are an endless fountain of inspiration.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
It took me a while to hone my craft. When I began my artistic endeavors, I had too many interests that prevented me from focusing on fine tuning my skills at any one thing. Over the last couple of years, I have found that building beaded hanging mobiles and crafting mosaics are my two favorite mediums.

To enhance my mobiles, I recently started to work with polymer clay which has opened so many doors for me creatively. I can build elements for my mobiles that are uniquely mine. Adding these elements to my pieces make them even more special and unique.

As far as mosaics go, I have always been good at puzzles. I remember my kindergarten teacher telling the kids in class to bring their puzzles to me at the end of play time so that I could put them back together quickly for clean up time. Mosaics, to me, are like putting a puzzle together. Creating the perfect fit of color, shape and size is so gratifying for me. It is truly a passion.

To get my art out to potential clients, I focus on building my presence on Etsy using social media such as Instagram and Facebook. I also participate in a few art events every year. This year I participated in the July 15th “Art In the Park” juried event in Blowing Rock, NC and will also be there on October 7th.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important qualities for me in my business are paying close attention to detail, taking my time to focus and ensure I am crafting a quality product and finding inspiration in the everyday. It is also important to stay organized and provide excellent customer service. I am passionate about creating art that my clients will treasure. It means so much to me when someone falls in love with one of my pieces. It is always bittersweet when I sell one of my creations. Each and everything I create is special to me.

My advise to those who are early in their journey is to find your passion and work hard at following where it leads you. The old saying, “follow your passion and the money will come” is so true. You are more likely to stick with something if you love doing it!

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My husband, Dieter, has been my number one fan since the day I met him. He is always there for me and supports my pursuits in art and life 100%. I would not be able to focus on building my business without his constant love and support. He is always there to provide an opinion, shoulder to lean on and is there to help me overcome any challenge that might present itself. He even comes to art shows with me!
